piggy-backing off of MITH here, forgive me if it has been discussed already.

    20 wagner
    19 cuny brooklyn
    18 rhodes
    17 alabama
    16 flagler
    15 mercer
    14 new college of fla
    13 coll of the atlantic
    12 hawaii, manoa
    11 swarthmore
    10 elon
    9 scripps
    8 kenyon
    7 sewanee
    6 agnes scott
    5 mt holyoke
    4 sweet briar
    3 loyola marymount
    2 princeton
    1 pepperdine

must have a hard on for the all-female colleges, huh?

swarthmore I like, but Gettysburg is the best campus in the CAA conference...
Kenyon isn't bad, but i'll take Denison or Ohio Wesleyan ahead of them from the NCAC.
Indiana would hands down be my top campus.
Lehigh and UVA would also be in my top 10.
pepperdine, while having great views, I can't say much of their architecture.
davidson, richmond or duke would all come before elon or sweet briar.
    ole miss before alabama.

I can't believe Flagler is only #16. It's incredibly beautiful. I currently attend Alabama (#17) and while it is a beautiful campus, it doesn't touch Flagler. Must be a huge dropoff between 16 & 17. :p

I would also say that the photo they chose for Alabama's campus is probably the ugliest part and it looks ridiculous next to all of those other photos.

    This is a bit better...

I personally like the University of California, San Diego. Especially the library, but the whole campus has a great aura to it.

I would replace the CUNY or Wagner with Fordham. That place is stunning and it is 3 blocks away from bith the Bronx Zoo and the greatest Veal Parmigana you have ever had.

Madison is like Austin. They are both excellent.

    But both are relatively ugly.

Unless they've done something in the past 8 years... Mercer? Apart from a few lovely buildings I would hardly describe it as a complete campus and worthy of Top 20 recognition.

Cornell University, which has two gorges running through it. The architecture on campus is nothing special. But the setting is great and the view of Cayuga Lake from Willard Straight Hall is stunning.

I'm a Cal fan so take it from me - Stanford's got a great campus. Cal's isn't bad either, though I don't know if it's top 20. Santa Clara deserves an HO here for being sort of a mini-Stanford.

I don't know how they missed those two.

No offense to Alabama: it's terrific, but Ole Miss should be up there too, and I also agree with a comment on the original website:

Putting Alabama on there and leaving off Georgia or LSU is when I stopped taking this article seriously. Damn, just damn, that is dumb.

Or as an earlier comment put it:

What about LSU? I think the correct phrase to describe that school would be 'botanical paradise'. Statley oaks and broad magnolias litter that campus.

From what I remember, the SEC has a lot of really attractive campuses.

One of my best friends did his undergrad and master's at Georgia and when he came to visit me at Alabama he said he thought Alabama's campus was much better than Georgia's. I know it's just one man's opinion, but figured I'd throw that out there.

LSU's is pretty awesome. I forgot about theirs.

I've been to all but Arkansas, Kentucky and South Carolina and as a general rule, they're pretty nice across the board.

    1) Fair enough. I may have been sneaking Georgia some bonus points because I saw it in the mid-80s and, well, it was in Athens, Georgia in the mid-80s.

    2) I arrived on campus to start my MA in January. It was -8 and snowing when I left Illinois on the previous day. So you can imagine how it looked to me.

    3) Haven't seen Arkansas, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Mississippi State myself. Kentucky looks more Big 10 than SEC, but that's not too bad.

I saw about 20 campuses when touring with my twins and I'd say Swarthmore did not stand out at all. Just another big green space with students wandering around.

I like LeHigh. It had uremarkable buildings, as did all the colleges, but it was a neat location, situated on a hillside. The magnolias were blooming, making it quite a sight.

    What about UVA?

I was going to say something months ago, but UVa is probably the third nicest campus in the Commonwealth.

I am a bit partial to UGA and Athens and think it is definitely one of the most beautiful college campuses IMHO.:)

The SEC, by and large, have some of the most beautiful large campuses you'll ever see. Ole Miss, Georgia and LSU are beautiful. Never been to Arkansas, but I don't doubt it's gorgeous. I'll even tip my hat to Auburn. As I recall, Mississippi State wasn't all that pretty, but I may be remembering incorrectly.
