Unless some decent level European side comes in and offers Besler a load of cash, I dont see him leaving.

Neither do I, but it would be a big loss if he did.

I haven't heard of Besler wanting to go overseas. Don't think he really wants to at this point, I mean come on the guy is going to be a hall of famer during a renascence in KC. 2014 is a renegotiating year with some big contracts. People who are up for possible are Bunbury, Kamara, Nagamura, Neilsen, and Peterson($741K). With Cesar, Collin, and Harrington in 2015(587K). That is a lot of $$$, and most the starting line up.

My first positive thought of the off-season:

We don't have to go through an expansion draft for the first time since the 2006-07 off-season, HOORAY!

Good call, we get to keep all of our players, and not have them stolen or held hostage. I bet we see more trades this offseason due to it too. Think about it that 1st player that doesn't get protected is one that usually gets picked, and the one that is seen to be the most expendable. I bet we see something.

It will be interesting to see if he signs a new MLS deal right away, or visits/trains with a Euro team in the next month...

What player wouldnt want to go overseas for the right opportunity and right amount of money. Just because he hasnt come out and said it doesnt mean he lacks the desire to do so. I wouldnt be surprised to see him get invited for a trial.

I think it'll be interesting to see what could come up for him if he is called up for the Russia game, plays, and plays well...

He would be one of the few MLSers available that I would take to Europe, there is plenty of players who derserve to see a run out a little closer to where they train.

He is every bit as good as Geoff Cameron was before he left IMO. However, Besler is further under the radar.

One thing that we're forgetting for next season as well, CCL qualifiers get extra allocation/cap money. Which we'll be getting next season.

Losing Collin would be a big loss too, wouldn't it? Not saying I think it would happen but I remember someone suggesting it might earlier this season. Wasn't that you Buzz?

I may have said losing Collin was possible because a French team could come in and try to buy him. Difference is that Collin is still under contract, while Besler is not, lot easier to leave when not under contract, team's don't have to pay a transfer fee.

which breaks down into larger salaries for the signee. If you had to pay 2M for a guy, but got him on a free that is 500K for 4 year contract, we can't compete with that.

Sure we can. Consider how much money LA has invested in the Beckham, Donovan, Keane trio. I'm not saying we should, just that the option exists.

BTW, from the 'get what you pay for' file... those players for LA are likely to produce consecutive titles. Sure, there are eight other guys on the field, but watching that game last night it was crazy how much those three dominated play.

And we don't need all three. We have a good club as is. We just need a finisher. Can you imagine Zusi and Kamara feeding balls into Keane?

oh, so if a player is under contract a team that wants to buy him has to pay a transfer fee? Thanks for clearing that up.

you made his departure seem more probable than possible. Has his contract situation changed in the meantime?

You're picking my posts apart over my definition of probable vs possible at this point. I think it's probable that he eventually goes back to Europe. Whether that's by transfer fee or leaving after a contract is up remains to be seen. I also thinks it's possible that he stays in KC long term. I have no inside information one way or the other.

The way he's talked about it in interviews and such makes me think he's more likely to stay in KC than not at this point. He didn't have terribly good experiences with all the clubs he played for in Europe and seems to enjoy KC well enough that I don't feel like he's looking to move out. Whether or not that's all just saying the right things to make fans like you, etc., is possible, but if you take him at his word then I don't think he's really looking to leave any time soon.

Peterson has shoulder surgery Friday, he'll be out 4 months, which means he'll likely miss the start of the season.

Collin might have a road road to International duty here in the US. If he can see that road then he will have to stay stateside.
