We're off topic here, so staying off topic: Spring games don't mean a lot; and they don't mean nothing.

Yup. Every spring, at least in this area. Last spring Colorado played three RMAC teams and didn't win any. This year, lost again to the Colorado School of Mines, and CU played the starters including the best of last season's seniors. It took a direct free kick directly into the net in the final minute to win 1-0 over Colorado Mesa two days ago.

Due to the length of the previous two-page digression, we will now join our regularly scheduled topic in progress.

Good lord, why not just put every school in DI on a list?

Utah finished fifth in the Pac-12 last year.

Northern Arizona won the Big Sky Tournament in 2008 and 2009 and won the league title in 2010.

Which was WAY above where they were picked, which I think was at or very near the cellar. We can scratch Utah from the list of heated seats.

Agree with UNC-Charlotte a top 20 program that has headed in the opposite direction since the change. The W-L's are concern, but look at the comparisons of schedules before and after.

    HOT SEAT From the OVC:

    Tennesee Tech
    Murray State
    Eastern Illinois

Sorry to continue the digression but my daughter's friend plays at D3 Trinity and they just beat Texas 4-0, and lost 2-3 to Incarnate Word.

Of course this doesn't mean a darn thing. :)

UNCC For sure. the program has gone down hill since the coaching change. There has been a number of complaints by Alumni, players, and Discussions by Admin.
NC State has to be feeling the warmth?
Did the issue at South Carolina Ever get resolved?

I think you have to look at Nevada Reno and San Jose State, and Idaho from the WAC as well.

Bet it does to the Trinity players ...

This makes Incarnate Word five goals better than Texas.

Doesn't UT have a new coach?

So if you want to know. Make this list. It takes about 30 minutes. It's not the end all be all, but it gives you a heck of a starting point. Basically take the teams that didn’t make their conference tournaments last year
    A. Stage 1
    1. Add 5 points if they will be a first year coach in 2012- Then take them off the list because they will be safe.
    2. Add 3 Points if they are a second or third year coach next year.
    3. Add 1 point if they are a 4th year coach next year.
    4. Add 3 points if they have been at the school more than 10 years. (Fewer of these get fired)
    5. If a coach has an interim tag place them directly to hot seat by definition.

    B. Stage 2
    1. Add 3 points if they made the conference tournament a year ago(2010)
    2. Add an additional 2 points if they made it in 2009
    3. Add 5 points if a team made the NCAA tournament in 2010/2009
    4. Add 1 point if they were the first team out of the conference tournament in 2011
    C. Stage 3
    1. Add 2 points if the overall record is over .500
    2. Subtract 2 points if they are under 5 total wins.
    3. Add 1 point if they had a better record in 2011 than they did in 2010.

If a coach has 5 or more points, they are probably safe.
If a coach has 2-4 points, their seat is warm.
If a coach has 0-1 points, they are on the hot seat.

Then know how many extemporaneous factors can affect this Many are not known.
    1. There are programs out there that have a higher standard than making the conference tournament(IE Texas) but it is a place to start. Even in the big conferences the vast majority of coaches getting fired start with this.
    2. There are programs that will let you continue to lose and keep working, but again it is the exception rather than the rule.
    3. Then there are the factors that can sway this such as grades, turmoil in the program(which can be a pro or a con depending whether it is within the coaches control or not) etc.
    Have fun.

    Geez...I hope not!

NAIA Westminster College knocked off Utah 1-0 and Utah Valley(GWC champs) 2-1. They also tied BYU 0-0 and Weber State 0-0 this Spring.

While most of this doesn't mean a lot, the win over the GWC champs sure is significant.;)

I'm either "arguing" with a dad or a small college coach so it's pointless. As I said earlier, it isn't that in a one off game a quality Division 2 team couldn't beat a solid Division 1 team, it is simply that spring results are not an indication of that.

Why don't y'all do a parity thread...not just within DI but across the board. It is actually informational (minus the bickering) for prospective student athletes and their parents to understand that good soccer and bad soccer are played in all divisions, and that focusing in on "D1" can be damaging to your kid's search for the right college. In our area, Lindsey Wilson plays D1 schools in the spring, nearly always beating WKU handily among others-- regardless of who starts. They are another roster full of internationals and not for everyone. But there are quite a few NAIA and D3 schools in the area (and nationwide) who play quality soccer, have terrific coaching and should not be overlooked in favor of some lower D1 programs.

Any word from Francis Marion yet? Phone interviews, campus interviews, etc.....

Also, most of know what has happened to Rohan Narriane at UA-Pine Bluff....an awful health issue and an absolutely terrible situation for his family....he's back in SC recovering, but UA-Pine Bluff has no assistant coach....who is running the show? Will they hire a full time coach or part time it until Ro is ready to return.....wow, this was an NCAA team last year (given it was the SWAC)!

Any thoughts or insight out there!!!

Sounds like a pretty close process. I heard they don't plan to advertise the position so take from that what you will. Either the AC is getting the promotion of they have someone specific in mind.
