So, here's where the Revs stand as of 12/12/12:

    * As a guess, they're probably about $900,000 under the cap, depending on what Cisse and Dorman will earn.

    * Scott Caldwell will likely be player #24 on this list, and won't count against the cap this year. He should be midfielder #9 on the roster.

    * Assuming no one else gets cut/released, they'll probably sign seven more players. Four of them will head to the off-budget roster, which makes it a good time to have all of those draft picks.

    * That leaves three senior roster spots up for grabs with about $900,000 in cap space to work with. Two of the three senior roster spots can go to international players.

    * Conceivably, the Revs could sign an International Designated Player at $350,000 against the cap, acquire someone like Kenny Cooper at $500,000 (...and perhaps pay down his salary to $400,000 with all of that allocation money) and STILL have ~$150,000 and an international roster spot to play with.

Nice breakdown Mike! So it does appear from your list that the Revs are in a very good position to make some noise but of course the question becomes will they?

They also pick 4th in the re-entry draft. I can see them taking at least 1 player

I honestly can't see them having brought Reis back at such a large amount, so we'd have some space there. Of course, most of that savings is probably going to Nguyen/Shuttleworth.

I'd also be curious if Rowe "graduated" from GA?

---also have the 4th spot to take any US International returning from overseas

All in all, there are a significant number of pathways and fiscal options open to the Rev Management Team to sign significant upgrades.

OK Management the grace period allowance to have a few lean years to remake and rebuild the roster is OVER. 2013 MUST be a winning year or else. Either produce or leave before we show up with Tar and Feathers :devilish:

Aren't Guy and Shuttleworth off budget?

Also, do we know for sure Bengston is making more than $350,000? I guess I assumed that it was his transfer fee that made him a DP, not his salary.

I'm wondering about this as well. He was only listed at $126k last year.

    Hmmm...

I don't believe so, but that might require a little more research.

    His salary is ~$125,000. However...

    • A Designated Player over the age of 23 counts as $350,000 against the club’s salary budget, unless the player joins his club in the middle of the season, in which case his budget charge will be $175,000.

So does that mean he could shed the DP tag at some point, then? Once his transfer was paid for or something? Is that even possible?

(I know there have been a couple cases of DPs losing that status, haven't there?)

They're making the league minimum. Players that make the league minimum generally stay on the off budget roster.

Right, so his transfer fee in charged to the salary budget.

Possibly. Rowe, Polak, and Fagundez could definitely take up spots 25-27 on the roster. Like I said, I'll have to look into this.

    That's my assumption, yes.

    Also...

    * Yes, the 2013 Salaries won't be the same as the 2012 Salaries in many cases. Still think it's a pretty good guideline, though. I'm going to see if there's a historical guideline to see if there's a standard generic raise.

    * Also need to check and see if Lee Nguyen also counts towards the Off-Budget roster. Seriously.

    * Would be surprised if Nguyen got a raise. MLS tends to not reward players who sign elsewhere after college and then come back to MLS at a later date.

    * Would also be surprised if Rowe graduated from Generation Adidas.

Please see below. Your player personnel status report is ready.

You had mentioned how you didn't have one; and how you so sorely needed one in order to understand:
    1.) who you had, and
2.) what you may need, and
3.) to keep track of how "right up against the cap" you were.

Every attempt at accuracy has been made, given the limited informational resources available to us; please augment the data below with any facts that only you possess -- in order to complete the picture with complete accuracy.

With MLS rules the way they are, who the hell knows. But a good analysis that was updated in 2010 that shows how GA graduations have generally worked. Anyone less than 1,000 minutes their first year hasn't, but Rowe played 1,897 with 21 starts.
