I could go for some nachos.
monreal has been out for 6 weeks already this season with a back problem.
I prefer queso dip with jalapenos. Better way to control your chip to cheese ratio.
Where would you get that from what I've said?
I'm saying your showing your inability to look at things from another person's perspective.
Saying 'oh he's a millionaire money shouldn't matter to him' like it does to your or I shows a lack of understanding of a simple fact that when you live around people who are millionaires being a millionaire is suddenly much less impressive and meaningful. And that's forgetting that the guy undoubtedly knows a billionaire or two which by comparison makes any millions look like table scraps by comparison.
So yes, for you his millions are unfathomable and beyond any concern for money ever again for a guy who lives in that monetary range at all times...it's probably less so.
Basically reality is what is around you. He lives around millionaires who drive six figure cares, live in seven figure homes and is used to having his bags carried, etc. I'm not saying that he won't have to wake up from all of that at some point - but I'm sure he isn't in any hurry to do so and is probably unaware of how rare that is.
And again, it's six months. If this was a guy turning down playing time to sit the bench for three years, the point would be more noteworthy.
at his age, 6 months is a long time, and it's not about earning more money to do what he loves, it's about earning more money to NOT do what he loves.
this is why i originally questioned his character re:football.
I just don't think his other options really require much ambition, either, so he might as well get paid while he can. If a player needs glory, or competition, or anything beyond money, to feel fulfilled, maybe training with a big team is as good as playing regularly for a small team. It's hard to get inside somebody's head, though.
Did he ever proclaim to love playing though?
Who cares about Squillaci guys. You mean to tell me all these posts are over Squillaci????? Jeez.
Oh yeah, I'm a queso-on-the-side kind of guy, too. Otherwise your chips get soggy.
well he apparently asked to be released, so he must have some wish to play. considering football is a confidence and determination game to some degree, players must have some love to play to drive that on. people who don't love doing something rarely make the top level of what they are doing. he's donated some money in the past to junior clubs, so he obviously has some affinity to football in general, which is why i don't understand why he has refused a move to at least 3 clubs to get back on the pitch. i guess it's possible he is hoping for something better, but i get the impression he's taken his eye off the football because of the possibility of the wage cut (and hence my questioning of him), and that's not an ingratiating thing. we'll see by 11.00pm i guess.
assuming the monreal deal is true and goes through, i hope wenger is also looking at a dm/cb. if he sorts those 2 positions with solid quality players then i'll be happy that at least he tried. (though he should have done it the first week of the window).
if monreal is all that we sign, i don't think it'll be enough.
haha. this is so true. I love how we all assume that professional athletes are 100% passionate about their craft just because they are.. well... athletes. It makes no sense. Even if you don't aren't 100% dedicated to something, wouldn't you keep doing it if you are a) really good at it b) have no other marketable skills and c) make a ton of money at it?
We certainly need to solidify the defense. That is even if we have to sacrifice one of our CB's/LB's or even Arteta. We have suffered with no proper CDM and despite with all his faults we were a much better defensive team with Song in it IMHO
yeah, like all 8-16 year olds put serious hours into playing football with the ultimate goal of making lots of money.......
Wow. That's another steal for AFC if this Monreal deal goes through. I mean Samba for 10 million versus Monreal for 6? Wenger can have his Nacho and eat it too.
Looks like a fukkin' awesome signing on paper lads.
i tend to agree, a good signing if it happens, though, there is one slight problem for the long term....monreal ONLY plays lb, and gibbs ONLY plays lb.
why compare 8-16 year olds to professional athletes?
I'm not saying they weren't passionate at some point, but I think because it's sport we tend to forget that it's still a job and, like all jobs, probably gets a bit tedious and tiresome after doing the same thing for 15 years
Especially, when you suck at your job
I'm a Nacho man....
Benoit Assou Ekotto said this a few years ago in an interview.
Separate names with a comma.
