Is it me or that an odd colour green? on the shirt that doesn't really match the green on the socks? Other than that its a nod to the traditional. I don't mind it at all. thumbs up.
Even Striker Likers cannot deny how awesome those kits are. Classic Rowdies. April 28th at Al Lang is going to be a feast for the eyes.
Only stupid bit is that star. It's not a crest, it's a wordmark.
Look at the the candid photo from the unveiling party tonight, posted above, the green is much darker in person than in the press photo. It matches the socks fine. Too bad they couldn't get the lighting right for the press photo, it does make the green look more olive or lighter, than it actually is.
That photo's lighting is so messed up, I thought Yamada was wearing green face paint!
Still nice looking kits.
yeah, not that one. The lighting there is obviously weird, too.
the new Hulk ?
Like: Classic feel of both home and away. I love their take on the original Rowdies numeral font. The hooped socks of course!
Don't Like: The sponsor photo on the upper chest. Move it full size to the back below the number like MLS did when they first started. Ditch the star. It looks out of place and ....well, this club didn't earn it.
I am sure the green is going to be darker, but it still isn't the classic Rowdies green. Which doesn't bother me. I can give a little on that.
I give the kits an 8 out of 10. Certainly way better than most other Div II clubs. The Strikers/Rowdies clash will be a very sweet sight to see uniform wise.
oh gawwd, Rowdies vs Strikers is going to be pretty incredible this season.
But yeah, these kits aren't perfect but they are pretty damn nice and IMO a great start for the rebirth of the Rowdies.
no comment on the star. I understand why its there, but also understand why other fans around the league think its silly.
Very happy they got the rights to the "Rowdies" name, but disappointed they felt the need to highlight a completely different Rowdies accomplishment with the star over the crest.
But its a small blemish on an otherwise AWESOME kit.
As just a soccer fan living in St. Louis with no ties to the NASL or the Rowdies, That's a fantastic looking kit...MLS should take notice. Based on that kit alone you guys deserve to be in MLS! Yes I will be ordering one!
I understand why people may feel that the Star doesn't belong there since it hasn't been "earned" by this current incarnation of the Rowdies. However, I've always felt that a club's legacy is kept alive by its Supporters. Players, Staff, & even Owners come & go, but the fans are the only thing that stays the same. So, that star is a badge of honor earned by us, the fans, who have kept this club's legacy going for 37 years & counting.
I really like how you put that! well done!
any pictures available from the game vs the strikers ?
I felt that the star was out of place when this team only called itself FC Tampa Bay. But now that we reclaimed the name, we get to reclaim the star.
Nitpick on the away kit from tonight. The green on the socks doesn't match the shirt/shorts. The green on the socks is what it should be, it isn't a lighting issue. Lotto screwed up the coloration on the shorts and shirt.
And while I am at it, the 'hooped' socks aren't hooped. They are green with a few yellow stripes.
honestly couldn't tell that well from where I was standing during the watch party. Hopefully the game is archived soon so I can watch it again.
Charlie, here are game photos so you can look for yourself.
They're slightly darker than the rest of the kit, but not "End of the World" darker. I like them a lot.
Thanks, George. From those pics, I really don't see the problem.
The home kits are very nice. Have a genuine throwback feel to them. Once again, I love the placement of the number on the upper chest. The classic font is great to see. Well done. The home socks are a much better approximation of the originals.
The only problem is the lack of trim on the bottom of the shorts. They look unfinished. (One more reason for Shane Hill to sit is that his shorts look like basketball shorts)
One serious question. If they are going to crib the original Rowdies' history, with the endless references to the 'glory' days, the montages, and of course that ridiculous star above the wordmark, then why not honor the only player that had his number retired by the real Rowdies? Personally, I think retiring numbers is stupid in the first place, but if you are going to do it then do it right.
Perry's #12 has been retired by the new Rowdies and is on the outfield wall, but why is Steve Wegerle's #7 being worn? It was retired by the original Rowdies, so it seems odd that they would 'forget' that in all their haste to round up the Rowdies' ghosts from the past.
good point. And I agree though, they should un-retire the numbers and just create a ring of honor for the names.
Great idea for the ring of honor. It's prefect.
They didn't forget.
They didn't know.
I brought this up in 2010. At the time, they said they'd appropriately honor the legends of the past in a different way.
To me, you can't have it both ways: you can't have the star and claim that history and then not claim the retired number.
Retired numbers are rare in soccer, I get that. And I have no problem with Perry's #12 being retired for having contributed greatly to Tampa Bay soccer for most of his adult life. I like Perry. Perry's aces.
And it's not like they retired #7, #10 and #6 back in the primordial soup days and it would be problematic not to have a #10 on a soccer team. Wegs had his number retired, deservedly so, and that should be respected just as Perry's will be going forward.
And if you're going to have a Ring of Honor (a great idea, I think), you'd think the Retro Nights would be the time to induct people, wouldn't you?
Separate names with a comma.
