The stations are really showing up in a lot of places on my side of the river. I was out walking down by the river last night and saw another 5 or so.

Anyone own a new Specialized? There has been a recall:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Bicycles with Advanced Group carbon forks

    Units: About 14,200

Distributor: Specialized Bicycle Components Inc., of Morgan Hill, Calif.

    Manufacturer: Advanced Group, of Taiwan

Hazard: The brake component housed within the bicycle’s carbon fork can disengage from the fork and allow the brake assembly to contact the wheel spokes while rotating, posing a fall hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: The company has received two reports of the brake component disengaging from the carbon fork. No injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves the following nine, 2011 model year bicycles with Advanced Group carbon forks: Sirrus Expert, Sirrus Comp, Sirrus Elite, Vita Expert, Vita Comp, Vita Elite, Vita Elite Step Thru, Tricross Sport, Tricross, and Tricross Comp. All bicycles have the brand name “Specialized” on the lower front frame tube. The model name is on the top tube.

Sold at: Authorized Specialized Retailers nationwide from June 2010 through August 2011 for between $700 and $2,000.

    Manufactured in: Taiwan

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop riding these bicycles and return them to an authorized Specialized retailer for a free repair or replacement carbon fork.

Consumer Contact: For additional information, contact Specialized toll-free at (877) 808-8154 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. PT Monday through Friday, or visit the company’s website at www.specialized.com

I could take out any reference to this being the transportation bill and it would still be an accurate representation of how things get done in Congress these days. Mild political rant aside, this is a very unfortunate outcome. Hopefully they make amends two years from now.

Jamis-Hagens Berman team victims of hit and run

“We had just made it out of town onto some quieter roads and were getting ready to start our workout,” Jacques-Maynes said. “We were riding two by two, which is legal in Arizona, and were actually all on the right side of the white line, on the shoulder of the road, when a car drove up beside us and the driver started screaming obscenities at us.”
According to Jacques-Maynes, the driver swerved into the two riders who were on the front of the 15-man paceline, causing a crash. Tyler Wren was the rider most injured but appeared to escape without any broken bones.

Per Jamis on Facebook, the driver was busted shortly after.

    Bike Manufacturer Serotta closing. Temporarily?

Not sure how big they are in your parts, but this one is going to hurt a lot of riders in the northeast. Their custom bikes were very popular with those with the income to acquire them (and the secondary market as well). There are lots of them near me.

Serotta were the 'Huffy' bikes that 7-11 used back in the mid-late 80's.

Looks like that had something to do with it. They obviously had a tough business model and needed to seek outside help that was never delivered.

The first innovative bicycle path in the Netherlands will be paved with light stones that will charge during the day and emit light during the evening. The path will run by the home that Vincent van Gogh lived in from 1883-5
