Interesting midfield. Whats the obsession with Thiago Neves and Rafael? I would have liked to see a fullback from the brasileirao, and the mids are puzzling to say the least.

But for a starting lineup I like:
    Diego Alves
    Adriano, Thiago Silva, Rever, Dani
    Paulinho, Ramires
    Kaka', Oscar
    Neymar, Hulk

I was hoping to see Luis Fabiano and/or Fred instead to Damiao that has been innefective.
Marcelo not chosen I take it he is injured?
As to starting line up, Oscar and Kaka are very similar players. I would put in Lucas instead of Oscar.
In the middle I like the agresiveness, speed of Arouca and would put him before Paulinho.
Defensively I would put in David Luiz instead of Rever.

Would love to go to NJ to catch the match.

i agree with the starting lineup. maybe david luiz instead of Rever.
i liked Thiago Neves back in 2007-8 when he was a beast with fluminese before going to hamburg. personally i like hernanes more, but he is a victim of playing on the NT when it was a rotating door for several other midfielders.

seems like there is no other experienced GK's out there? sucks Helton never really got a chance with you guys

Agree re Helton. Played 3 games in 2006-2007 and we though he was going to be first choice in the Copa America only to see Doni get the nod. I rate Helton as a goleiro.

Hah, I've made so many mistakes at work today also. My mind is all over the place. I must of just read Fabio and subconciously thought of his bro.

Fabio Santos? Jesus, Mano has gone mad. One of his worst call-ups yet.

I wonder if Mano is really been following Giuliano to call him over the other Brazilian midfielders in Ukraine...

And Thiago Neves is having a subpar season at Flu. His previous stints at Flu and his stint with Fla last year were much better than his season this year.

Helton is a joke. An experienced GK is right under your nose in England, denilson. JC singlehandedly kept QPR in the game vs Arsenal on Sunday and Arsenal scored on an offsides goal. He might not be playing like he did a few years ago, but he's definitely more than a serviceable keeper. Miles better than Helton.

    I agree.

    BUT

I was told that Lucio, Maicon and JC upset people in camp at the 2011 Copa America. Very little has been seen of all 3 since.........so their days my be over in the yellow.

i wouldn't go that far. Helton has been an excellent GK for porto over hte years and never got a true chance with the NT. JC has been the #1 since 2006, but i don't think Doni or Gomes were in a higher class than helton.

i've seen plenty of porto games and i've seen Gomes/Doni make much more basic mistakes.

helton has been consistently good for porto over the years; while JC had fallen off the grid recently, but did have a world class game against arsenal.

no reason why a GK like Helton should have only 3 caps at the international level

interesting. part of that is probably mano's fault - between 2010 and the copa america 2011, mano was going with all youngsters and then just before the copa america, he quickly brought back Lucio, JC and Maicon into the mix.

it's drastic changes like that where i have concerns for you guys in terms of chemistry. dunga did a great job of gradually phasing in players.

JC didn't start since 2006. Dunga used Helton, Gomes and Doni for nearly a year, if not more, until JC finally got his shot and never looked back. I was begging for Dunga to start him when he used Gomes and Helton instead. Both of those goalies failed to impress. Remember, Doni was the starting GK in Copa America in 2007.

The Portuguese league is not exactly the best barometer to measure talent. I have also watched Helton since he started his career at Vasco. He's had some pretty epic mistakes in UCL games. I don't rate him any higher than the goalies Mano has been using. There are plenty of goalies in Brazil that deserve a call up and have had less of a chance than Helton, such as Diego Cavalieri (1st place Fluminense's best player IMO).

All three have seen a dip in their form they had previously demonstrated. Lucio started poorly at Juve and eventually got hurt. Maicon, I honestly haven't seen much of him at Man City. JC had big games against top sides like Chelsea and Arsenal.

And Mano still leaves Hernanes off. Do you think it's still because of the France game? He's worse than a woman..

At last, Mano has put together a team that can become very good provided that they keep playing together until the world cup. David Luiz is the one who has not convinced me yet as a defender. However, he's playing for Chelsea and he may get better. I really like Paulinho in the midfield. Also, I pray that Kaka can go to another european club where he will be able to play every week because Brazil will need his experience in the midfield. Adriano is a very good player whom I also like. When Marcelo comes back, should he be bumped off the starting lineup? I am not so sure. I like Marcelo because he has great offensive skills, but Adriano might be more complete.

    Diego Alves
    Dani Alves
    David Luiz
    Thiago Silva
    Adriano
    Ramires
    Paulinho
    Oscar
    Kaka
    Hulk
    Neymar

You really think Adriano is better than Marcelo? Marcelo has arguably been the best and most consistent Selecao player for the last year or 2 years. If anyone needs to be replaced it is Dani Alves.

6+ years as the starting keeper for porto would indicate he is doing something right. for all the opportunities gomes and doni have been given, i think helton has deserved more than 3 caps with Brazil. the few times helton was wearing the yellow shirt he did fine.

for all the experience he has had in europe, i think he is still a good option. the keepers brazil has put out since Cesar have been pretty average at best...

I think Adriano is a more versatile player. Without a doubt, Marcelo is better offensively, but Adriano is better defensively and is a much more disciplined player.

Adriano doesnt even even start at Barca. Alves and Alba are the main backs. And Marcelo is imo the best LB in the world. His Defence has improved greatly over the last 2 years, credit I believe, to Mourinho.

When I said I agree - I meant re JC. - Helton is very good in my opinion.

No, he has picked Hernanes since France! AND he forgave Marcelo........remember he apparently sent a dodgy e-mail which Mano saw 'celebrating' being injured ant playing against Scotland (so the story goes)

Marcelo without a doubt in LB, no questions asked.
I still like the agresivenes and defensive power of Arouca - a real animal.
The rest pretty much defined. I think our team is finallly after 2 years starting to form a face.

Adriano may not start at Barca, but that's a far cry when you see that Mano called up Giuliano, who's a reserve at his Ukrainian club.
