Ok, I'm trying to figure out options. I'll do this by position, with the usual 4-4-2 or 4-5-1. A star indicates World Class (IMO).

    Gardiens:

    1. Lloris *
    2. Mandanda
    3. Landreau
    ---
    4. Carrasso
    5. Coupet
    6. Douchez
    ---
    7. Pelé
    8. Pionnier
    9. Penneteau

    LCB:

    1. Escudé
    2. Boumsong
    3. Silvestre
    4. Abidal
    5. Givet

    RCB:

    1. Gallas *
    2. Squillaci
    3. Mexès
    4. Rami
    5. Planus

    LB:

    1. Clichy
    2. Cissokho
    3. Evra
    4. Trémoulinas
    5. Mathieu

    RB:

    1. Sagna
    2. Chalmé
    3. Fanni
    4. Réveillère
    5. Clerc

    DM:

    1. Lass *
    2. Toulalan *
    3. Flamini
    4. Diarra
    5. Vieira
    6. Mavuba

    LM:

    1. Malouda *
    2. Menez
    3. Ben Arfa
    4. Rothen

    RM:

    1. Ribéry *
    2. Govou *
    3. Rémy
    4. Sissoko

    AM:

    1. Gourcuff
    2. Nasri

    CF:

    1. Benzema *
    2. Henry *
    3. Gignac
    4. Anelka
    5. Hoarau
    6. Gomis

I know this list can be greatly improved. Any suggestions welcome.

    Agree with nearly all .

Although Carrasso is better than Landreau , and how can Anelka not be regarded world class to you ? Especially since you have Govou as one , and also Benzema even though he isn't exactly proven anything to suggest he is .

    Boumsong 2nd choice LCB

Hoarau has done nothing all year and shouldnt be rewarded. He's injured but too bad. You snooze you lose, pal.

And Cissé should be awarded because he finally learnt how to score goals in the amazing Greek league ?

LMAO at having him and Saha ahead of Gignac .

How many did Saha have last season ? And the season before and so on ?

Gignac has 5 goals from 12 games .

    Last season 24 from 38 games .

Forgot him. I was going to put him as LM right after Menez but thought better of it and decided he'd be more useful as a CM and forgot to create the category.

A lineup with Lass as lone DM and Cheyrou in front of him would be interesting.

I don't like Abidal there and after Escudé, both Boumsong and Silvestre are rather weak alternatives. Still, I prefer to see them there rather than Abidal. When Éric makes a mistake, it's usually a lethal one.

You may be right. Carrasso and Landreau are close IMO. Didn't include Frey because he quit the team, otherwise he'd #3 there.

Abidal is a world class LB but not a world class CB.

Agreed about Anelka being world class also.

You know , if it ever came down to Abidal or Boumsong for the LCB position ( please never let this happen ! ) , I'd go with Abidal .

    Rearranging a bit:

    Gardiens:

    1. Lloris *
    2. Mandanda
    3. Carrasso
    ---
    4. Landreau
    5. Coupet
    6. Douchez
    ---
    7. Pelé
    8. Pionnier
    9. Penneteau

    LCB:

    1. Escudé
    2. Abidal
    3. Silvestre
    4. Boumsong
    5. Givet

    RCB:

    1. Gallas *
    2. Squillaci
    3. Mexès
    4. Rami
    5. Planus

    LB:

    1. Clichy
    2. Cissokho
    3. Evra
    4. Trémoulinas
    5. Mathieu

    RB:

    1. Sagna
    2. Chalmé
    3. Fanni
    4. Réveillère
    5. Clerc

    DM:

    1. Lass *
    2. Toulalan *
    3. Flamini
    4. Diarra
    5. Vieira
    6. Mavuba

    LM:

    1. Malouda *
    2. Menez
    3. Ben Arfa
    4. Cheyrou

    RM:

    1. Ribéry *
    2. Govou *
    3. Rémy
    4. Sissoko

    AM:

    1. Gourcuff
    2. Nasri

    CF:

    1. Benzema *
    2. Anelka *
    3. Henry *
    4. Gignac
    5. Gomis
    6. Hoarau

    Notes:

    1. Frey out because he quit team and a second chance seems unlikely.

    2. Cissé, Saha and Trezeguet out because they seem out of the radar for Ray so far.

    3. All these players are in consideration, either as already called up to the NT or having played on France B several times.

    4. Note our lack of World Class defenders. Indeed, Abidal is a WC LB but he does not want to play that position any more. As a CB, he is wanting. Ray may have to force him to the LB spot if there are no other alternatives. Unless the pair Toto-Julien performs, our CB situation is not good.

    5. We only have two good CAM alternatives (Gourcuff and Nasri). Ribéry can play that role but he's better at RM. I don't consider Yoyo and Samir as World Class yet. That may change in the coming months, specially for Gourcuff.

    6. Cheyrou included as LM since we rarely play with a net CM.

    1. Didn't Frey say not too long ago that he still hopes to play for the NT ?

    2. I wouldn't be suprised to see Domenech call-up either Cissé or Saha .

    4. Yeah that's the first thing I noticed , only Gallas can claim to being a World Class CB , while the others are good + solid . Because of Gallas' reputation I don't think we'll be seeing a Toto-Julien pairing , even though that's the best option .

    5. I think Ribéry is actually better on LM than RM , that's the position he prefers anyway . Cabaye of Lille is a good prospect for a CAM role , but that's too ambitious to think he can make the squad with so little time .

    6. I spoke to a friend who is a Lyonnais supporter , he claims that Domenech and Blanc have been talking about Gourcuff being a CM rather than a CAM .It looked like he was playing that role on the weekend against us . They both feel it will benefit the team , instead of a pairing of Lassana-Toulalan , Yoyo will add creativity compared to either of them in that area .

That's interesting. So would that mean a switch in formation...say to a 4-4-2 like this?

    -----------------Lloris------------------
    RB---------Gallas-------LCB--------LB
    RW-------Toulalan----Yoyo-------Ribery
    --------------Anelka--Henry-----------

    Yeah I'd hope so . ( the switch to 4-4-2 )

Or they could have something like this in mind for example , with the 4-2-3-1 formation we've used lately :

    ----------------Lloris----------------
    ----Sagna---Gallas---Escudé----Evra--
    -------Toulalan-------Gourcuff--------
    ---Benzema-----Ribéry------Henry---
    ---------------Anelka----------------

I have a concern about Henry in this position , I think it's quite clear he doesn't have the explosive speed anymore , which was one of his main attributes . These days he struggles to beat his opponent , he's often predictable and has difficulties finishing games . He's suited better as a ST , I worry Domenech will continue to use him as a LW .
