I have a quick question. When they do the per week salary, how many months/weeks is that for?

So the whole year? Nice. That means his salary would be over $1.5 mil? No way any young player, phenom or not, is getting that in MLS in the present or near future. We barely are signing top defenders to that kind of deal, let alone attackers. That's more than Verratti and Pogba were making on their original deals.

It's not $1.5 million. In fact, it's over $2.5 million in today's dollars.

According to oanda (http://www.oanda.com), for calculation purposes, the figure - £30,000 per week - equals to approximately $49,929.60 in today's dollars. Per annum, it amounts to £1,560,000, or $2,596,339.25 in today's dollars.

That's even crazier. I just did a quick calc. in my head and added a little over 25% to it but that was way off.

Players are usually under contract say from June of one year to the next and are paid regularly just like salaried employees.

Is it just me or does that amount seem a bit extreme for an unproven, albeit talented, youngster?

Something like 5K Euro a week would seem more along the lines of what I would consider fair.

EDIT: I guess the minimum salary is at least 8K pounds a week so at least that.

I thought it was his original deal. Interesting but they see him everyday around the likes of Ozil, Wilshire, Rosicky and the like for direct comparison. They know his talent.

Dude your like a dog with a bone....that salary puts every country in the worlds young player contracts to shame. It puts 95% of the contracts in the soccer world to shame.

I agree. It's like comparing NBA contracts to basketball contracts around the world. There is a reason EPL is one of the best leagues in the world. Not every player is going to be worth that kind of contract but I think we can all agree that there definitely is some wiggle room where HG contracts can become more competitive with their world-wide standards.

Also UEFA has a minimum salary requirement (pro contract wise) for "Foreign born" players, I believe this is around $400K/ yr.

Idea or concept is it will only bring best players over and not "flood out" local players and their development.

I don't believe there is UEFA minimum salary. Definitely not what our guys are getting in Northern and Eastern European clubs. I suspect you are thinking about Dutch league.

I also don't recall any UEFA salary requirement, although there is one in many different leagues in Europe.

Zelalem was listed here as part of Germany's u17 roster for their upcoming qualifying matches up until this morning. Now he's no longer on there. Just saying :whistling:

Sorry, Gedion, you are just going to have to wait. I can only handle one OMG-he's-a-top-American-prospect-at-a-really-big-club-and-he-wants-to-play-for-us! revelation per week. Give us a call on Tuesday and we can talk.

Isn't the most likely scenario that Arsenal decided they didn't want him to attend?
If the kid has any chance at first team playing time, there's zero reason for him to play for the German U17s..................................

Unless of course clubs are forced to release their players for the European U17 qualifiers. They could be. I don't know.

Until somebody can tell me what Gedion's citizenship timeline is, I'm not going to hyperventilate about the possibility of nabbing him.
