    From the Crew board: http://www.columbusdispatch.com/crew/crew.php?story=dispatch/2006/12/06/20061206-E2-01.html

Looks particularly interesting that Sigi Schmid is out in the "big" talent countries and his assistant is in Central America... but not scouting our guys publicly.

I don't mean to be a pessimist here because I think Villatoro in particular could be a good find, but it doesn't look like our guys are on the radar at Columbus and it seems that Villatoro given his SI status and (IIRC) new multi-year contract with Municipal this year, will just be rumors. Don't forget, these are the same beat writers that suggested Pezza was all but a done deal at the Galaxy over the summer and also had a lead on a certain signing of Juan Carlos Plata at the same time. La Red has been equally off-mark having suggested that Loco was most definitely headed back to Columbus last year when he ended up in Miami. I'm skeptical of today's rumors.

This Guatemala U 20 team has not much chance, Haiti team will beat them and Panama easily. Let's follow.
Guat players are too short and physically not strong enough, they will suffer a lot.

Howdy folks -- sorry to ask something that may have been covered many times, but I scrolled through several pages of this thread and didn't see what I was looking for. What's the latest on Luis Swisher? I guess he finished the 05/06 season in Poland but I haven't been able to track him down since.

yeah thats what the USA under 20's thought aswell, but they where overwhelmed in our friendlies last month when they had trouble breaking the back line and containing our Wingers not to mention Guatemala played with out thier star striker Campollo. Your Reasoning comes from old Generalizations of Guatemalan Football, you have no idea of Guatemalan soccer and thier progress. Nor do I think you've seen Our under20 teamin Action and According to a few USA players who ply thier trade in England said the GUA U20 are pretty quick and stronger then anticpated, and not very short.

I will let you believe what you want because thats your opinion , but to use those reasons are just a poor exuse because thats just wrong and you have no idea of whats coming.

Guate U20 appears to be capable plus aggressive. Here's comments and quotes from ussoccer.com on the November friendly and practice game:

"Skillwise they're quite decent, so it should be an intense match today."
    -Johann Smith, U20 MNT player

Despite Guatemala clearly trying to counter, and letting us possess the ball- our kids don't have the soccer IQ to recognize such a situation, and break it down appropriately. Guatamala looked to have several players who were quicker or at least as quick (which I didn't expect given we have MLS players), and they just seemed more 'soccer street smart' in several cases.

If the closed-door scrimmage between the U.S. and Guatemala on Monday afternoon is any indication of what the game on Wednesday will be like, be prepared for a tight, high-intensity, free-flowing match, with a dash of nastiness.

The U.S. looked to be the better team in the first 10 minutes of the scrimmage and in the end came away with a 2-1 victory, but during the first half it was apparent that Guatemala wasn’t going to be pushed around without a fight.

The “chapines” were organized, yet attack-minded as their ferocity surprised the U.S. at times in the first half, allowing the Central American side to test U.S. ‘‘keeper Nicholas Skverer, who was up to the task on both on-goal attempts.

"Let’s be real honest, we end winning the game on a goalkeeping mistake. I was impressed by Guatemala and at times we had trouble breaking them down,” said U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team head coach Thomas Rongen, who was leading the U-20s against Guatemala for the first time since 2001."
