As mentioned by several forumers in the Mexico vs Jamaica thread... Azteca is not working. Some of our worst performances under Chepo have been at home.

I think its time we start rotating our home games.

Yes I realize its basically the national stadium and home turf of the Mexican Team, but its no longer serving its purpose. The fans aren't showing, and going as far as booing your national team and cheering on the opponent.

Its a big country and there are people outside the capital who have yet to see their national team play. We are a good team, I don't think we need the altitude. In fact i don't even think its much of a factor anymore.

Would it really hurt us in the long run to see some change?

They played underwhelmingly at TSM and at Reliant Stadium too. The problem is not the Azteca.

^^ If you are referring to the Guyana and El Salvador games, both were essentially friendlies. Mexico had already qualifiied. Regardless, at least a lot of chances were created in both matches. I only counted about 1-3 real threats from Mexico in yesterday's match.

Those games were still indicative of serious problems going forward. In fact, I'd say we have looked awfully abysmal at creating goalscoring opportunities since the Dallas game versus Brazil.

As for this "Estadio Azteca doesn't hold the fort anymore" conundrum, I think it is very shortsighted to pin the blame to the stadium. Mental fortitude when in deficit was one of the things we all praised Mexico for just two years ago; a hostile local crowd shouldn't (in theory) affect the players.

Let's play with the idea that Mexico could move around the country just for fun's sake. What would be the best venues?

Ciudad Universitaria: Hostile crowd, same altitude and pollution as the Azteca.
Nemesio Diez: Pretty much the same.
El Volcán: You lose the D.F. factor, but you gain in higher crowd numbers.

Aguas Calientes. Close to el defectuoso, nice staduim, less hostility from fans.

I think we can all agree that leaving Azteca would be the biggest bitch move ever. But since were just throwing names out there

The only real alternative would be el miguel aleman in Celaya.

The FMF should really get their shit together and lower the stupid prices for the game. They are too expensive and people aren't going to go. Also especially with the horrible traffic because of the fixing of the Periferico. People are all surprised about booing but you have people going thru hours of traffic, paying exorbitant prices and then seeing them give that horrible performances against a team that people thought was worse than it is (people aren't that knowledgeable and they don't know Jamaica is a good team but think it's the team that lost 6-0 and 5-0 in previous visits to Azteca). It's not surprising.

And we are struggling in Azteca and that has to be dealt with. Everything has to look at that but like Mr. Black says, I don't think it's the answer with all the talk of mentality to run away scared from Azteca.

Its not about running away. I strongly believe we are the strongest team in the Hex. And everyone else probably thinks the same.

Last cycle, Azteca was a fortress. Even in the semi-final round we were getting 80k+ attendance. As bad as we were away, at home was a whole different ball game. This past year and a half, I have witnessed our fortress turn into a petting zoo. Less than half the stadium is filled, and crowds are booing the very team that represent their country. This is a huge mental factor, and we are a people that live on emotions. Not even in top level nations like Argentina and Brazil would you find that.

I understand the circumstances. Traffic in Mexico City is horrible as it is. I can only imagine how bad it is now with the second level they are adding to the pereferico, which is by the way a great marvel of engineering which the city needs. But until the circumstances change, they should rotate the games.

The people of other cities who are not accustomed to seeing the National team play would be willing to pay alot more than chilangos who get to see almost 5+ games a year. Argentina started doing this last year and are getting great results.

As biased as I am, I wouldn't mind seeing the US game in March moved to Monterrey. I know it won't happen, but the FMF can charge as much as they want and el vulcan will still sell out. Plus I wouldn't mine libre y lokos and addicion making an alliance to support el TRI. I always wanted to see our NT with real barra support.

Agree. These guys better stop drinking the CONCACAF kool-aid and figure out that they're not going to win just by trotting out there. For all the talk of not taking opponents lightly, they clearly did. And unfortunately, the longer the game progresses and they don't score, the pressure keeps mounting and it gets into the players' heads. This game reminded me of the August game vs the US. It's a good thing Jamaica is so piss-poor or they could have easily won that game.

Less than 1/2 the stadium was full. What's the reason? High prices?

What good is it having such a large stadium if u cant even fill it up.
America basically gives out free tickets to anybody with a jersey and still your lucky to get 35k+.

FMF could easily charge 400 pesos + for general tickets here in MTY, and we will still sell out.

How much did they charged for the lone u-17 world cup match that Mexico played there? Cuz that shit wasn't even close to full. Neither it was the last time Mexico played there.

The real problem is and will be the lineup, playing with two troncos didn't work before and is not going to work in the future, take out Peralta or Hernandez, put Giovani or Fabian there and half of the problems with the NT will be solved, also Maza and Salcido need to leave, I finally see why Maza wasn't starting at Stuttgart and Salcido is not even close to his best level and he is not going to be, age finally got him like Torrado. Corona, Moreno and Guardado should be the leaders of this team.

I think hosting home games in places like Torreon, Nuevo Leon, or Monterrey will bring packed stadiums and better atmospheres.

Also, I'm willing to bet that the players play better in smaller, packed stadiums than in an empty giant like the Azteca. I don't care who you are, playing in the Azteca (even if half empty) will weigh you down even a little bit. Mexico has everything to lose when they play there; other teams have everything to gain.

I actually think they could have played better in a smaller, less intimidating atmosphere. All these are just 'what ifs' though so we'll never know.

You mean the 3rd group match with an already qualified Mexico? It had 30k. Not bad for a U17 group match. The last friendly vs Colombia was a sell out. The last clasico in November had general tickets.selling for 2000 pesos. Tell me where else in Mexico will you find people willing to pay that much and still sell out.
