    Let's do this again!

    Saturday 29 March

    Montreal at Philadelphia, 4:00
    Chicago at DC, 4:00, NBCSN
    Kansas City at Chicago, 6:00
    Houston at Vancouver, 7:00
    Portland at Dallas, 8:30
    Toronto at Salt Lake, 9:30
    Columbus at Seattle, 10:00
New England at San Jose, 10:30

    Sunday 30 March

That silly teacher who tells the students to behave when they're not going to be there...

Oh how will my Timbers disappoint me this week? The only thing I know for sure is that since it's FC Dallas, Darlington Nagbe is going to score some dumbass goal he had no right making.

The 8:30, 9:30 and 10:00pm Saturday games are certainly looking like contests I want to watch. Of course, they will probably end up being the worst games of the day now.

Do I really have to endure another miserable week of MLS soccer? And look at that! This week the source of my misery is on national TV. Goody ...

I promise to behave. And if I fail to uphold that promise, it's Tim Hinchey's fault.

In non-MLS (or maybe future MLS) news, Sacramento Republic FC has their inaugural game on Saturday night. It'll be streamed free and live on YouTube. They're playing a loaded-with-MLS-players Galaxy II at the StubHub track stadium. So if you don't really want to watch New England at San Jose ...

    Saturday, March 29

Sacramento Republic FC at LA Galaxy II, 10:30 pm, YouTube

Finally, how will "The Garbernauts" disappoint me this week?

Came down with a flu bug last night so I won't be making it out to the Dick for today's game. The silver lining though is I can be here to annoy all of you and watch all the games. :D

On the big screen at PPL, is it? I may have to be on the train back to New York, fortunately or unfortunately. :)

Looks like that may be a wet trip back. Good thing I bought the train and game tickets in advance, or I might have changed my mind.

Well, dammit. I'm going to miss much the underwear and Oxford shirt Bob Seeger karaoke due to entertaining Sra. Golazo's pretentious work colleagues. Watch, they're probably Eurosnobs, too.

I have 4 hours to kill before the games start, and I'm stuck at work with not much to do. Anyone have any good movie ideas? I'm looking for something on Netflix. I'm thinking action, maybe suspenseful drama. Anyone got anything interesting?

    I'll hang up and listen.

Sorry. I don't watch European soccer. It's beneath me. Plus, I'm Reservoir Dogs. Can't go wrong with that much violence.

Not what you asked for, but "Paleta" is a decent soccer documentary. It's two recent college grads that go around the world playing pickup. They're whiny as hell about "what are we going to do about our future?" but they play in all kinds of weird places, including inside a Bolivian prison.

Not so much action or suspenseful drama but here is a list of good to very good flicks that are streaming on Netflix:

    - Fish Tank (character study about a troubled youth in England, very good)
    - Drinking Buddies (cute and quirky but a little bit "hipster" and "white person problems")
    - In The Loop (comedy, very funny and good)
    - American Psycho (if you haven't seen this, do it, now)
    - Blue is the Warmest Color (WARNING: French with English subs, but very good..graphic lesbian sex scenes)
    - Following (One of Christopher Nolan's early works. Low budget psychological noir-thriller. Good)
    - Man on Wire (awesome documentary)
    - Pi (Early Aronofsky, mathematical psychological thriller. Weird and good)
    - Melancholia (Don't watch if you hate Lars von Trier or Kirsten Dunst. Otherwise, pretty good)
    - In Bruges (probably Colin Farrell's best performance. Crime noir with naturally dark overtones set in Belgium)

    My recommendation on that list.

I've tried American Psycho, but I just can't do it. I watch the hannibal tv show, so obviously the violence isn't the problem.

Fish Tank - I just added that to my queue. I will check that out.
Drinking Buddies - Watched it for 30 minutes and turned it off. It was so damn whiny.
In The Loop - I saw that. The guy who basically speaks in curses is a riot.
American Psycho is one of my favorite movies. I think I did a riff of it when Sheikh Mansour founded NYCFC vis-a-vis the scene when he talks about Huey Lewis and the News
Blue is the Warmest Color - I will watch it solely for the sex scene. I'm not ashamed to admit that.
Following and Pi I will check out.
Man on Wire was tense as hell.
Melancholia - I really hated this movie for some reason, and it was probably for von Trier because I like none of his stuff. I was curious about Nymphomaniac, but from what I've read, it's not so much disturbing as trying too hard to be something it isn't.

I'm watching A Fistful of Dollars now. I'll check out Fish Tank after it's over.

That's one of those movies that you either love or hate. No one is ever on the fence for it. I never watched it for the shock value of the violence. I always appreciated it as a satire of the 80s, and since I grew up in that time, a lot of the satire seems funny to me. The book is wildly violent, but it's also incredibly graphic in its detail. In the beginning of the movie, he describes his daily routine. In the book, it's exactly like that, but in every chapter.

Yeah I generally can't stand von Trier either but I thought the Nymphomaniac films were far and away his 2 best. I recommend them even for people going into it with predetermined hate for the guy (like me). They take some time though and are definitely a little uncomfortable but some of the writing is pretty brilliant.

Melancholia was definitely iffy for me and if someone else had handled it I probably would have liked it a lot more. Still wanted to throw it in there as a wild-card of sorts for people who are into that.

I am ignoring OKC's new USL team, the OKC Energy, contributing to their eventual folding.

One of the things I didn't like about it was how non-chalant everyone was about the end of the world. I mean, I know it's a metaphor, but, for crying out loud, the gravity of such a situation would be thought of differently.

Talking about them doesn't give them money.
