One of the great musical phenomena of my life has been the terrific acts that have appeared on some iteration of the Muppet Show, on Sesame Street, or with Muppets in their videos. On top of that is the great "incorporations" of popular songs into their type of humor - I told my seven year old daughter about one earlier today, which I remember from the original Muppet Show. As one muppet sang "Close To You" to another, parts of the set/background would stick to her along with the words to the song (Why do birds suddenly appear every time you are near? Just like me, they want to be, close to you (wham - the birds are stuck to the muppet).

I'd love to share some of these, which show the sense of humor that many musicians have that doesn't always come out.

Such as this - Furry Happy Monsters, from REM:

And this - Gone Fishin', from Weezer:

    More, please! :)

I've been tracking these down on YouTube for the last couple of months, my kid loves to sit on my lap and watch them. Mahna Mahna is his favorite, but here are a couple of others we've found entertaining.

    Classic Cookie Monster:

Sax and Violence, with Zoot the sax player and an appearance from the Mahna Mahna guy:

That's a good trivia question. That song is actually performed by: Mahna Mahna and the Snowths.

Fun clip, I had forgotten about that one.

Ah, the Muppets. Of all the things that have been created in this world, the Muppets rank high on the list.

To be fair to Andrea Bocelli, Elmo really carried that song with the first verse.

Do yourself a favor and check out all of Rowlf's videos. But this one is freaking claaaassic. "Can you play hatless?" "I don't know, who wrote it?" Absolute genius.

Classic rock, if not a normal Muppets/SS track: Stevie Wonder and his band performing a fantastic 6+ minute long live version of Superstiton on Sesame Street:

Seriously good - better than the album version IMO.

In the spirit of Buddy Rich, Tito Puente faces off against Oscar the Grouch (can a grouch resist dancing to Puente and his band's beat?):
