Hey, I've seen that I can pick up the Vapor IX CR7's for <£100.

Just wondering if anyone recommends them as a boot?

    Thanks

I was surprised to see what looked like a pretty normal stud plate on the magistas

On Twitter Nike said $275, I'm not sure if that is the price for the model with the "sock" or without.

Yes it is technically part of the boot, but it still goes against the logic for which the rule was created in the first place. If I remember correctly the rule was put into place to help linesman make calls, specifically for offside calls. If two players are both wearing the same colored Magistas, then it does just as much harm as someone wearing colored ankle tape.

That is the worst explanation I've ever heard as to why the sock/tape rule exists, the reasoning is absurd. The linesman shouldn't be crap, insoles shouldn't be crap, and socks shouldn't be crap. Problem solved.

The sock/tape rule exists as a means to protect branding, make no mistake about it.

Wasn't my explanation, it's simply what I remember reading in an article when the rule came out. I actually believe that article might have said that that was FIFA's official explanation for the new rule.

Yeah, I understand it is FIFA's explanation, which makes it even more obtuse. When topics such as goal line tech and the location of the World Cup being in nation's that equipped to host it are much more pressing, Blatter pulls this gem out.

Making it easier for officials was the explanation we were given by refs when the rule first came out. Whole dressing room burst out laughing.

It seems Nike really had to push with the launch of the Magista because Adidas launched the Primeknit. Launch in March and available at retail at the end of May?! I bet they weren't planning launching it now already but had they launched it later it would have been regarded as a copy of Adidas invention.

The boot itself does look stunning and the new gimmicks will certainly appeal to many. However I was disappointed that the upper has so much of that knit type material. How will it handle moisture and how durable is it going to be. For sure it will be hard to clean and also hard to dry because of the sock design.

That sock design is also a bit weird in regard that most football players don't like using ankle guards since it disrupts your touch. That sock will certainly add some bulk on your ankles and I'll bet the players hate that. Very interesting to see will the pros actually wear this or will they find a way to get around it somehow :)

I think all this barefoot type of hype is getting a bit out of hand. In my opinion a boot should feel like a boot. I miss the good old days of power boots :D

I think Nike always had the reveal planned for last week. The launch event had so much to plan logistically, they definitely didn't do it at the drop of a hat.

If you're in Europe, you might remember the huge lead-up time to the Hypervenom launch; they were revealed in May/June and went straight to retail in the States where the season was still going on, whilst here in Europe we had to wait until the start of August (I think) for them to hit shelves.

I'm just thinking, if the sock on Magista does become loose, then you can't wear the boot anymore unless you cut off the sock bit.

What are you doing? Taping your shin guards in place?

    Tape!? You're thinking last-gen, man.

This is Flykit we're dealing with, brah - you're gonna need a repair kit that's on its level:

$275 for a Glorified Sock!!! No thanks. The price of cleats keep getting higher and higher, while longevity and quality keep going down. Its just Nike's marketing power. I give props to Nike for the innovation, but id rather not get stepped on with a "sock." I think I becoming more and more a fan of Mizuno.
