Looks like no Free Agents after this 4/5; All other signings outside drafts must be done with "Discovery".

I have a couple questions for the FAQ.
    1. If each team is capable of finding 8-10 free agents players to submit to form the draft pool, why do they need a supplemental draft?

    2. Do I want to hunt up 8-10 really good players which will then be divided up between my rivals or am I thinking less intensive search?

Yeah, I was thinking if I were the Spirit and found some good players at the open tryouts last weekend, I'd keep my mouth shut about them until after the draft. Ditto for any other team. And if I were a player who wanted to play for a particular team, I'd refuse to participate in the draft and become a discovery player.

My immediate thought when I read this was that if I were a team naming players, I would name players that other teams want.

I imagine there has to be some sort of currently-not-publicly-stated incentive for teams and players to go for the supplemental draft. Otherwise it is really quite idiotic on all accounts - way more so than anything the league has done so far.

I would nominate older club players that haven't played professionally since like the 90's or something. It would be great seeing players drafted in the supplemental draft like Jena Kluegel and Debbie Keller. Heck, I would nominate Cindy Parlow for the draft. Maybe then she can draft herself.

Seriously, who is gonna nominate players they want, for risking other teams to grab them in the draft, when instead you can keep those players away from the supplemental draft, and pick them up yourself in Discovery?

But then again, all it takes is for one of the other seven franchises to nominate them, and you're screwed with that plan.

So I kind of like this. It's like a game of Survivor.
Who do we put on the block, and who do we keep as an alliance behind the scenes as a "secret" in hoping no one else nominates them? Pure strategy involved, and telling that player to shut her yap on Twitter, so no one else thinks to nominate them, and then they can be picked up in Discovery.

    LOL

Here's my mock supplemental draft - in the first round:
    1.) Washington - Mia Hamm
    2.) Portland - Tiffeny Milbrett
    3.) Boston - Kristine Lilly
4.) Western New York - Carla Overbeck
    5.) Seattle - Julie Foudy
    6.) Chicago - Brianna Scurry
7.) Kansas City - Tisha Venturini
8.) Sky Blue FC - Brandi Chastain (they decide to take yet another defender)
9.) Washington - Michelle Akers (they get another free complimentary 1st round pick for Harris)

Footage shown from Anson Dorrance 21 years ago talks about why Mia is such a great pick.

Well if I understand it, you can only have 4 discovery players at one time.

So 7 allocated (6 for some)
    4/5 FA
    4 draft picks
say you cut all 8 players you "draft" because as you say all teams nominate not very good players.
then you sign your 4 discovery players.

That is 19 players for your team.

    The there is this

So yes I guess nominating good player for the "draft" would be a terrible idea.

    Allocated players = 7
    College draft picks = 4
Free agents = 4 (and 5 if you had 6 allocated players above)
    Supplemental Draft = 6
    Discovery = 4
    -----------------------------------------
    = 25 players

For a maximum of 20 spots. So it's possible many teams will be cutting about 5 players.
Those 3rd and 4th round picks in the rookie draft need to be sweating in their sports bra right about now, because I'd be nervous too if I were them. Good chance most of those players won't make it in this league. I would guess at least 2/3 of the 3rd and 4th rounders won't make it. Let's put it this way, 5th and 6th round picks in the Supplemental Draft have just as good a chance (or better) of making it in this league as 3rd and 4th round rookies.

I didn't know the Supplemental Draft would be so HUGE.
But the league has gotta give these teams options to cover all their holes (plus teams have various players overseas for part of the season), and you need to keep the teams in having a stronger pool to select and cut from, to keep the quality of talent at its peak (as much as possible) right now in this league.

In all seriousness, if the league was determined to have the SD then they r the ones who should have put together the player lists. They could have accepted for applications just like they did with the college draft. Then removed any signed players from that list at the end of the open signing period. That they would have teams do this is silly. Next theyll suggest calling ur own fouls as a way to save on referee costs.

But don't the Discovery players have to be available for the Supplemental Draft but not selected, according to the procedures FAQ?

I wonder if is worth the risk to just go with 18 players (the minimum) so that way you can pay higher salaries than if you went with 20.

    200K / 11 = 18K+ Average salary
    200K/13 = 15K+ Average.

This post makes way too much sense.
Remember, they read the "Idiot's Guide to Starting a League Book" from Target, for $7.95.

    Don't give them any ideas.

    Then again:

Before each game 4 lucky fans get picked to be the officiating crew. :p

"Streakers" from the coaching, training, and medical staffs on each team, to take each penalty kick if a playoff game goes to a shootout.

U really cant cause u have 7 (or so :)) WNTer who may miss games. I like how they limited the camp roster to 32 players. How could u sign 32 players?

Non allocated players have to make the final roster to get a contract.

    FYI:
Can teams pass on selecting a player during a round in the Supplemental Draft?Yes, teams may pass on selecting a player during a round in the Supplemental Draft.

How do teams claim Discovery Players?
The rights to Discovery Players will be allocated to a team on a “date of submission priority” basis.

Its possible that not all drafted and discovery players will show up at camp. All the teams have are the rights to the players who may choose not accept the teams' invitations to attend camp.

This is probably a dumb question but do the teams/coaches know the players they submit are available and willing to play in the league? Do the players submit themselves in this draft as well?

Depends on what stage of "make it up as we go along" the league office is at.
