It's never too early for silly season.

    http://www.lagconfidential.com/2011...laries-la-galaxy-robbie-keane-salary-released

    David Beckham $5,500,000.08
    Landon Donovan $2,300,000.00
    Robbie Keane $2,917,241.40
    Chad Barrett $192,000.00
    Donovan Ricketts $170,000.00
    Chris Birchall $144,000.00
    Todd Dunivant $135,000.00
    Omar Gonzalez $120,000.00
    Mike Magee $102,850.00
    Sean Franklin $97,389.00
    Gregg Berhalter $96,000.00
    Frankie Hejduk $96,000.00
    Leonardo (SEI) $90,000.00
    Kyle Davies $62,000.00
    Juninho $90,000.00
    Jovan Kirovski $84,000.00
    Josh Saunders $63,222.00
    Michael Stephens $57,750.00
    AJ DeLaGarza $55,110.00
    Miguel Lopez $45,000.00
    Adam Cristman $42,000.00

Berhalter, Hejduk and Kirovski retire: +276,000
    Drop Barrett and Stephens: +249,750
Trade Ricketts for draft picks: +170,000
    Total: 695,750

That's a lot of cap space for a team that just won the cup.
My dream is that with shrewd maneuvering of the Juninho situation, salary bumps for a few key guys, and low-cost replacements from Bruce's usual draft shrewdness and the waiver wire for Stephens and Ricketts and other benchers, we would still have enough to lure Edson back in January (I think ~400,000 in salary (non-DP) and a shot at the CCL/CWC would be hard for him to turn down).

And then we would be undefeatable.

Lots of questions heading into this offseason. We could have a dramatically different team in March. Hope not.

Still in my MLS Cup Final glow, it'll be hard to say no to this for Landon:

NSNO sources tell us that Everton have lined up a second loan deal for Landon Donovan, who will join in January.
Donovan spent ten weeks with Everton in 2010, earning the Player of the Month award in his first four weeks including a game at The Emirates Stadium where he dominated Arsenal.
In January this year Everton wanted to bring him back on loan but Donovan had played a long year of football which included a staring role as part of the USA World Cup squad.
In October last year, the BBC asked if he would return in January 2011, but after 12 months of football he said, ”It would be hard to say no. I really hope that, if it’s not this year, I get to go back there and play again. But if you asked me now I would lean towards a little more uncertainty.”
It is believed that talks have already taken place with the MLS and Donovan, and that he is excited to get the chance to return to Goodison Park.

"It is believed" is hardly "done deal". Take with a grain of salt.

I like your plan, with exception to the part about dropping Barrett and Mikey - both serve a purpose. Sure, they may not have the best of skills, but they have both improved with the Galaxy - who knows what the future holds. I don't think they'll ever become world beaters but nonetheless function as a useful cog in the Galaxy machine.

That said, I would love to have Buddle back - imagine Keano and Budson combining! That would be just amazing. And given the storybook ending to this year's MLS Cup, I'm in the camp that believes the Beckhams are packing for Paris - at least until he forces his way onto the Olympic team. Whether he returns to California as a retired MLS franchise owner or has one more season in him as a Galaxy player, I think Beckham is gone in January.

Bring on our next DP! (i.e., Lampard, Stevie G, Ibrahimovic, Anelka, Drogba or... :D)!

I think we can safely let Ricketts go now as much as I like him.

Why is Juninho out? I missed that storyline. *

My question is who do we give up in the expansion draft.

Juninho's loan ends before the start of next season (not sure of exact dates).

Quick reality check as we bask in the glory of MLS Cup victory, need to let the celebratory spirits ;) wear off before rebuilding the roster.

First, biggest priority this offseason will be settling the central midfield:
    1. PSG's offer sounds mighty inviting to Becks (lots of $ and perks plus high level training in Paris to prep for a home country Olympic farewell).
    2. Juninho's circumstances are controlled by San Paulo. Also from what I've read, if San Paulo wants him back, he's ready to leave LA.

Juninho has played great defense and cover to allow Becks to roam freely.

Becks showed the hustle, grit and pin-point passing last night that will not be able to be replaced.

Those are huge holes to fill (even with a DP slot and lots of Time Warner's $).

    Re: 2011-12 Offseason Moves Thread

So, what might change between now and next season? Why don't we put together as complete a list as we can based on what info we have.

    Thoughts:

    Berthalter retires
Franklin (is his contract expired? Thought I heard that somewhere)
    Beckham (contract expired, might resign)
Juninho (Loan expires, can we resign him?)
Omar (entering his final year of his deal, can we resign him or do we sell him when he has value if he definitly plans on leaving MLS)
Rickets/Saunders -probably should plan to move one of them prior to the expansion draft to try and get something and not lose one for nothing.
Landon -flirting with overseas loan in offseason
Keane - I think it is very likely will do offseason loan (would he be back in time for CCL quarterfinal?)

Any other lingering issues? Could be hard to have the entire core intact for our March CCL quarterfinal.

The most important offseason move is making sure this gets taken care of:

    AJ DeLaGarza $55,110.00

Would hope to be able to keep Omar until the Summer transfer window so that he can play in the CCL. But the closer you get to his contract expiring, the closer he is to just walking out on a free transfer and getting nothing in return. He can sign a pre-contract with another club next Summer, then move once his contract with us is up.

Even though it hasn't been announced publicly, Galaxy/MLS have likely offered him an extension and raise, but he's declined it.

We also get some allocation money for the CCL and will as well if we sell Omar.

    Good summary.

I would not object to a Landon loan as long as he is back in time for the CCL finals in late April. We should be able to handle the quarters and semis, which are a pretty easy bracket, without him, now that we have Robbie.

I think the most sensible structure for a Beckham deal, for all parties, is for LAG to re-sign him with a pre-agreed loan to PSG that covers Jan-summer. He plays in the Olympics and then comes back to us for the stretch run and playoffs and CLUB WORLD CUP!!!!. There would be an option to re-loan in Jan 2013.

    1. PSG gets the publicity and jersey sales without the downside risk of signing a slowing 36-year old to a lucrative multiyear deal in a league more dominated by pace and power than any other in Europe
    2. Beckham is only away from his family in Cali for less than nine months... less than six if we assume they will be in London with him for the summer, as they surely will
    3. Beckham gets to close out his career as a G, which I think he would genuinely like to do at this point, and have a platform for smooth transition to ownership of a franchise
    4. LAG continues to reap the benefits of Brand Beckham off the field, and most importantly has him available for a potential Club World Cub gig, which would be the most important thing ever to happen to this club
    5. Having Becks stay around with the CWC in view will probably help convince guys like Omar and Juninho to stay around for another year too.

The Galaxy already re-signed him mid-season this year to a three year deal. As a result, that salary is probably outdated.

That's good news. I thought I recall at the time of his signing that there was some strong suggestion that he'd be on loan come January.

Many people thought that he'd go on loan, but he recently said that he definitely would not go in order to get some rest. Can't remember where I saw that though...

We should go for Adu if Philly doesn't protect him. He'd be a great pick up and provide depth just in case we lose Juninho

??? Isn't the whole point of protection to protect players from the expansion draft, which is only available for Montreal...

We don't get to pick anybody. Only Montreal is picking so as to stock the new team. If we wanted Adu, we would need to trade something to Philadelphia for him.

    Pretty easy bracket?

Toronto is no pushover the way they've been playing of late, and assuming we win, we get the winner out of Seattle/Santos Laguna.

    That's easy?????

Imagine last night's game without LD and Becks.

    Yeah. Not easy.

If he's coming back, I'd prefer him to be back in March. But that's an awfully short loan stint.

That is a depressing list by the way. I think Sean will stick around. I think we'll manage a deal with Juninho. LD will go on loan and return barring something especially weird. But we ARE losing Omar I think this coming year. And it's looking 50/50 that we'll lose Becks.

It's going to be an interesting offseason for us.

Guys - same "in the knower" I've mentioned before has posted in the Everton forum.

The loan deal with LD and Everton looks to be ON.

No idea how long, terms, whatever, but the discussions ARE happening.

Not a done deal, but it's in progress.

    Re: 2011-12 Offseason Moves Thread

If some of these moves pan out, in addition to the Galaxy selling Omar, waiving Kiro and Heydude, we would have enough money to resign Buddle:

    http://www.mlssoccer.com/2011-mls-roster-rules
We would have first dibs on Buddle, who we could easily woo for a significant pay bump while still keeping it under the DP amount (we could probably buy down the amount somehow - we are the Galaxy after all :D).

The prospect of playing alongside Robbie Keane and our new 3rd DP in the CCL/CWC would be too much of a temptation for Edson I think, especially compared to being stuck in the second-tier Bundesliga playing for a minnow of a team. Working in the Galaxy's favor is that Klinni is keeping Buddle in the USA picture, so as long as he is guaranteed regular playing time - which will obviously happen - he won't have to worry about dropping out of the national team...for now. Who knows come Brasil 2014.

    Bring Buddle home!

Yeah, I think it is the easiest imaginable way in the whole world outside of oceania to get within 90 minutes of the Club World Cup. If we can't at least make the final even without two of our three DPs, I will get back into the Fire Bruce thread in earnest. There is no excuse for not advancing from a bracket like that.

    Re: 2011-12 Offseason Moves Thread

Sorry to burst your bubble, but there is no way Edson comes back for $400K. When Edson left in 2010, he was making approximately $188.5 which MLS (per Don Garber) offered to double (so $377K). Per Garber, FC Inglostadt doubled the MLS offer, which would place his salary at around $754K. His contact also runs through June of 2012, so he wouldn't be available for the CCL games for this year.

As for your proposal to trade Ricketts for draft choices, I don't see it. Draft choices are typically a crap shoot, sometimes you win big (like the Galaxy did in the 2009 draft) but most of the time, unless you are talking about the first choice in the draft, you get a player who doesn't really make a major impact. For example, with the 2nd choices in the 2009 - 2011 super drafts you would have gotten: Sam Cronin, Tony Tchani, Darlington Nagbe. Would you really trade one of the top keepers in the league for one of these three players?

Finally I hate the idea of dropping either Stephens or Barrett.
