One of the reasons I'm an MLS fan is because it's currently in a sweets pot, in terms of fan experience. The league isn't a fringe organization like professional lacrosse or whatever, but it hasn't become a corporate behemoth like the other American sports leagues.

Of course, the goal of the owners is to make it a corporate behemoth, if they can.

Totally agree, it's still intimate, but has legitimized in the sports landscape.

After having his contract option declined by DC, it looks like Maicon Santos will be with Chicago in 2013.

How much would his option have cost us? I don't remember.

So, since we got our new Indonesian overlord, topics related to Indonesian soccer have come up from time to time -- hints of a match or two there, players coming here for trial etc. So I figured there might be some interest in this story, which is focussed on one player but in the context of large problems with the sport in Indonesia. Don't know where to put this post, so I'm putting it here.

Terps down 2-1 to Georgetown. The Catholics look to be the better team so far ( 40 min. first half).

MD loses on penalties 4-3. Georgetown saved in 2nd, MD saved in 4th and 5th. The last PK was nearly straight at the keeper.

    Great final 30 + 2 OT's for the Terps.

    Thx,

    Jay!

Great match. Too bad it was played in Hoover, Alabama on a reconfigured baseball field with over half of the seats empty.

I've seen the stadium and know how money works in Hoover, but I hated that they won the bid.

Richmond would have been sold out for the G'Town/Maryland game....

I guess it's worth noting Georgetown lost to Indiana who claimed their 8th title.

The guy who scored the winner for Indiana (Nikita Kotlov) also scored the winner for Carmel United against DCU in the U18 Academy final a few years ago.

Which means he'll be drafted by either Chicago, Houston, NY, or LA.

Washington Spirit (formerly DC United Women) is the name of the team in the still unnamed women league (WPSA?).

Like the NBA team Washington Wizards & the WBA team Washington Mystic, the name "Washington Spirit" doesn't resonate much either with the D.C. metropolitan area or with the sport being played by the team.

    Fail.
