Atlanta Legion and Atlanta Locomotive(s) are both better.

To me, the only "euro" name that could work would be:

Atletico Atlanta... Because of the whole ATL theme.

But I would prefer to at least call the team Atlanta Atleticos

It will be be in all likelihood the only Southern team...might not hurt to think regional with the name.

I LOVE the name Dixie... To me, it is nothing more than an all encompassing representation of all that is southern culture which I (not shockingly) find more positive than negative, but unfortunately, and in many people's minds, they have in recent years made the jump to racism with it (normally, from people who are just completely ignorant to southern culture.) People have such an irrational fear of the south because of the media that I fear it would not work. Although, to be fair, not too many complain about Winn Dixie, Dixie Chicks, Dixie Cups, or the 90% of BBQ restaurants that somehow incorporate Dixie into their brand. I believe if there is any way for that to work, it would have to have to make an obvious approach as Dixie to incorporate a more New South feel to it.

    An example may be:

The Dixie Football Club of International Atlanta (hate when people call it "football" but whatever)

    D.F.C. Inter Atlanta

    ; or

The United Dixie Football Club of Atlanta

    U.D.F.C. Atlanta

still, I prefer the names Atlanta Legion and Atlanta Locomotive.

Although I totally dig your enthusiasm, Atlanta Braves are still ATL BRAVES. I would assume an Atlanta team (such as Atlanta Phoenix ;) ) would draw any regional crowd that a regionally named team would. Right now I "support" DC United because I like their logo. Yeah thats it. Give me anything regionally relevant and I'd support it more earnestly. I do have to give props for Dixie idea, even if I wouldn't choose it. It's creative.

EDIT: I referenced Braves name just to point to a regional team lacking a regional name. Didn't make that clear in original post. Thanks!

    Hey Guys,
I see some great names on here, but there is only one negative I see with ATL Phoenix FC ( LOVE the use of the city's heritage though). The fact the if it was ever termed Phoenix FC (such as with Sounders and Timbers) it could be confused with Phoenix, Arizona. My drinking buddies and I have discussed the need for the city's motto of "Resurgens" (meaning "rising again" in Latin, with the more direct translation being "rising up"). This lead to me thinking of the name Atlanta Resurgence FC. If not for the club name I feel the supporters group could definitely roll with the name "The Resurgence". The idea of coming back is in the history of our great city and I think anything to go with phoenix or rising has to be central to the image of the club. I also feel the badge MUST be a modernistic design of the city's crest. What do y'all think?

This is the first name that I liked a few years ago, but the complaint was that it sounded to metaphysical like Revolution and some of the WNBA and WUSA/WPS team names. I still like it, but I think Phoenix or Firebirds has a better shot of winning out over the 'Surge. Regardless, the team's shield has to include a phoenix on is and look alot like the city's crest, posted above. Regardless of who jumps on the bandwagon, this is Atlanta's team, and the name and crest should reflect that.

Thanks for the feedback. I can see the issues with it, and frankly who wants to be mistaken for a WNBA team. No matter the name it's about our city and our club (if we even get one). This is sort of the idea of the crest http://images.military.com/UserImages/206727 , of course not the same but just as groundwork for the final image. I just moved back here from the NW about 4 years ago and have no idea how to get involved in the effort to bring a MLS team does anyone have any suggestions?

Terminus S.C. You can still have the phoenix on the crest.

I LIKE IT. But I don't think it will get the main focus of most people. But hell if that isn't an original idea.

True story. IOC is very protective of the word Olympic, and I wonder how Lyon gets away with it, unless they struck an expensive deal years ago.

Hinting at anything related to the Olympics, with the still contentious issue of the new dome replacing the old, may be a bit too easy of a target for the cynics. Phoenix is a bit confusing, geographically, and hinting at the Fire has been done before to no-great effect that will, again, give the cynics a charge (Flames). If there were only some way for Blank to get on board with the Silverbacks, that still just seems like the most natural of choices and could go hand-in-hand with the existing scheme of the Falcons, ala the Sounders and Seahawks. Ultimately, I'm holding out hope for that to happen, what with the way Silverbacks have finally figured out how to draw and run a club, even in a less-than-ideal stadium. Boris may claim to want nothing to do with an MLS team, but if they become the 2nd act in town and Blank manages to not be a jerk in dealing with them, they should jump at the chance of getting on board with it. It also makes a good deal of sense from a startup perspective for the new ownership group to have that foundation to build off of and take into the league.

Blank already has a former executive from the Columbus Crew on staff. In the end, the 'Backs will become a great intown farm team for the Firebirds, a la the Gwinnett Braves.
