I think I figured out who Marvin's mom is: it's Gale. He's the son of The Wind and his wife Gale.

After all this games and seen Marvin play (wich is really good) I wonder of why FC Dallas will let him go ?

BTW, the signing of Sealy with FC Dallas also makes me wonder... why they will sign him...but whatever, now is their problem not ours

According to various blogs and reports, Dallas needed to get allocation money in order to sign a forward (ended up being Blas Perez). Also, at the time they traded Chavez, they still thought they were going to have Jackson, who ended up going back to South America for family reasons. Jackson played some right back and some midfield for them last year. Still, it seems the undervalued Chavez and while the move looked questionable at the time, it looks downright stupid now.

Good for Doyle and Yallop to find someone who could help change the Quakes midfield so much. And I don't think we've seen the best of Chavez yet, hopefully he'll get more comfortable at the offensive end and look for his shot a bit more as well. I know he was known to be a not very good finisher last year, but he still scored 6 goals.

Does anyone know if we are likely to lose Chávez to Honduras during WC qualifying this summer and fall?

Yes, he won't be a starter.. but having someone like him coming off the bench with his pace up against tired legs.. Things can get hectic.

Yes, but don't forget that MLS is taking a break for most of the WCQ time. The Quakes are off at those times, so Chavez (and Wondo or Bernardez, if they by any chance get called) would miss few, if any games, only during a training camp or friendly prior to the WCQ games.

Chavez got called into the Honduran team last summer for the Gold Cup, but Dallas had lost guys to injury and Chavez actually turned down the callup to stay and play for Dallas. He seems like a very quality guy, and I actually hope he gets called up to pay him back for his integrity last year (even if it was for Dallas, and not San Jose).

I compared the WCQ schedule with the Quakes schedule and there seemed to be more overlap than I expected. There are matches in Sept. as well as June.

You misread the schedule then....the Concacaf WCQ matches are June 8, June 12, Sept 7 and 11, and Oct 12 and 16. The Quakes are off from May 28 to June 19, and Sept 3-14, and Oct 7-20. There are no conflicts, unless (as Quakesfollower said) the teams call players in significantly before the matches for training or other friendlies.

The US does have friendlies on May 26, May 30 and June 3, so they may call guys in before the May 26 MLS games, but they may also leave MLS guys with their teams until May 27. Honduras doesn't have any friendlies scheduled yet, so it's unlikely they'd call anyone in before May 27 for the June matches. Jamaica has a friendly against Panama on May 27, so on the long shot that Khari gets called in for Jamaica, he could miss the Quakes May 26 match.

iirc Honduras has a friendly scheduled before WCQ starts.. Against New Zealand in Houston I think.

I thought they should have one scheduled, but it doesn't show up on their schedule on Soccernet. Just looked further and they have a friendly on May 29 against El Salvador in Houston. I'd expect that any MLS players would stay with their teams for the May 26 games and then join Honduras.

By the way, Honduras is playing tomorrow against Costa Rica in a friendly and neither Chavez or Bernardez appear to have been called in to play.

Game falls into a non-FIFA date. Both teams called-up mostly domestic based squads except for a few.. I know Los Ticos called up two/three players who play in the MLS, while David Suazo is making the trek from Italy to appear tomorrow in San Jose, Costa Rica.

But this game serves as an experimental purpose.. most of the players are fringe or are fighting for spots.

Hypothetical: if Chavez keeps up this level of play for the rest of the season, what would you rate his value in $?

He needs to get more dangerous around the goal - he seems tentative for the most part when he gets to the offensive end. Today he finally had a great play where Wondo made the pass to him and he ripped a shot. That's one of the few times he seemed aggressive near the box.

But he has played exceptionally well up and down the field, and even though he may get suspended for the tackle he made today I like to see him hustling and playing defense.

Glad to see that Marvin has accepted the suspension for his tackle and apologized to Miller. It's good for him and the team to learn not to attempt tackles like that going forward. (The part about Chavez's apology is at the end of the article).

I thought Chavez played much more aggressively in the offensive end in Philly. Maybe it's because he came on as a sub, but hopefully he translates that to his play when he starts. I like that he was aggressive in taking guys on and getting good crosses off, but I also like that he went at the goal and took a good shot.

He made the MLS Team of the Week this week as well.

Chavez seems to be a hit with the Earthquake faithful. I'm glad :) Hopefully he can contribute to the NT soon.

Chavez was fantastic last night, every time he touched the ball he looked dangerous. And he was extremely unlucky not to get a goal, that was a really nice shot he took that went off the crossbar. I said a few posts back that he needed to be more aggressive with the ball in the final third, and boy, has he been the past two matches. He also has worked very hard defensively, it's been very enjoyable watching him play.
