Has it almost been done by an MLS team in the past years? Maybe a Double? Or any team in Concacaf in the past?

And if possible can a MLS team do it in the near future?

What would be the competitions needed to win the Treble in Concacaf:

    U.S. Open Cup
    MLS Cup
    CCL

According to Wikipedia, the last MLS club to win MLS Cup and the U.S. Open Cup was Los Angeles in 2005. Chicago in 1998 and D.C. in 1996 are the other two times an MLS club won both. An MLS club has never won those two and the CONCACAF Champions Cup or League in one year.

Well, only two MLS teams have ever won a CONCACAF title, and neither won 2 MLS titles that year. Still, there have been a bunch of doubles. And there have been some close calls on trebles.

Along the lines the OP said, when DC won CONCACAF, they beat Vasco de Gama (Bra) to win the Inter-American Cup, and finished 2nd for the SS and in MLS Cup.

In 2001, when LA won CONCACAF, they also won the USOC and lost the MLS Cup final.

    The full list of doubles:

1996: DC United: MLS Cup and USOC.
1997: DC United: MLS Cup and SS; 2nd in USOC; 3rd in CONCACAF (knocked out by LA)
    1998: Chicago Fire: MLS Cup and USOC;
1998: DC: CONCACAF + Inter-American Cup (Vasco de Gama); MLS Cup 2nd, 2nd in SS
1999: DC: MLS Cup and SS (LA Galaxy 2nd in both)
2000: KC: MLS Cup and SS (Chicago wins USOC, 2nd in MLS Cup and SS)
2001: LA: CONCACAF and USOC (2nd in MLS Cup).
2002: LA: MLS Cup and SS (2nd in USOC)
2003: Chicago: SS & USOC (2nd in MLS Cup) (SJ wins MLS Cup, 2nd in SS)
2004: None (KC won USOC, 2nd in MLS Cup & SS).
2005: LA: MLS Cup and USOC (NE 2nd in MLS Cup and SS)
    2006: None
2007: None (NE won USOC, 2nd in MLS Cup)
2008: Columbus Crew: MLS Cup & SS
2009: None (LA 2nd in MLS Cup and SS)

So, 10 doubles , with a double of sorts by DC in 1998. Of the legit 10: DC has 3, LA 3, Chicago 2, KC and Columbus 1.

Yes, the Treble is considered wining your domestic league (which in MLS is recognized by wining MLS Cup), your domestic Cup cometition (the US Open Cup in the USSF) and the Region's international club championship (CCL).

The Supporters Shield isnt an official trophy, its a special award given to the team with the most regular season points that was created by the fans. While it doesn't count to the "Treble" here many fans consider it part of the Domestic treble (MLS Cup, USOC and SS).

Damn. They were close to the Treble. That team alone is one of the best MLS has ever produced.

DC United won the MLS cup and US Open cup in 1996. In 1997, they won the supporters shield, the MLS cup, reached the US Open cup finals and placed third in the CCL.

The LA Galaxy won the MLS cup and US Open cup in 2005, but came close to the treble in 2000 when they won the CCL and got to the semifinals of both the US Open Cup as well as the MLS cup.

I'd argue that a domestic treble would still be impressive for an MLS team, considering so few teams have even come close.

So say a team won the CCL, US Open Cup, and the Supporter Shield but didnt win the MLS cup. Would that be considered a true treble or a treble with a * next to it?

    Probably depends who you ask.

The interesting thing is that in the U.S. it's possible to win "the Quadruple" - the CCL, MLS Cup, the SS and Open Cup. You can do this in England as well with the 3 traditional ones, plus the League Cup. I don't know if you can do this in some of the other countries, where I don't think they have a "League Cup", and they definitely don't have a SS AND a MLS Cup per se.

France also has a second cup competition. It's the only other one I'm aware of.

    In CONCACAF since MLS started?

2001 was the only year with no CONCACAF Champions Cup or League competition.

Overall, the CCC started in 1962 but was not held in 1964, '65, '66 and 2001.

Right. So I guess there was a regional title even in that year.

    Must spread rep before....

Nice so all those countries plus the USA and who knows who else ouside UEFA.

Mexico and other Central American countries have two cups if you think of the summer playoffs and winter playoffs as different cups. But they do not have (as far as I know) a commander shield trophy style cup.

Argentina has two league championships but no cup competition (as far as I know).

Mexico has a cup? I'm pretty sure they just have two league championships per season, just like Argentina.

Japan also has two cups. The Emperor's Cup (equivalent to FA Cup, USOC) and the Nabisco Cup (equivalent to the league cup in England or France)

Nice on the Japan cups I did not know.

About Mexico, you are right they are not cups per say, but they are not championships like Argentina. Argentina has tie breaker games at the end of the season, but no playoffs.

The way Mexico gets its champion is more like MLS and the MLS cup, Mexico just does it twice a year. and there is no trophy for the best team all year round (even the game where the two semester champions played each other went away, I forgot what it was called).

Love the Emperors Cup since it incorporates teams from all over the country. Even high schools

Can of worms. Depends on which you think determines "winning the league".

Not really, because it doesn't matter what "we think". MLS has already determined who wins the league and that is winning MLS Cup.

    Seems pretty clear to me:

CONCACAF Treble - CCL, USOC / Canadian Championship, MLS Cup

Domestic Treble - SS, USOC / Canadian Championship, MLS Cup
