Like i said as soon as our teams start winning tournaments then we can start praising them, comparing them with the Mexican teams

Agree with the youth teams but I don't agree that their senior nats are better. Yes their senior nats won the Gold Cup, but right now most of the Mexican players in Europe are rusting on the benches.

It'll be much different the next time we meet them, especially with the addition of Bundesliga starters Fabian Johnson and Chandler, a couple of more experienced EPL starters in Lichaj and Ream, and a healthy Cherundolo to bolster that pathetic Gold Cup backline. And most important of all, a red hot, unstoppable Clint Dempsey.

I wouldn't say that. Giovanni Two Saints has been playing Bench for a while for Spurs, yet he still scored a great goal against us. IDK what happens, but every time he puts on a green shirt (or black shirt, in this case), he completely ups his game

Dos Santos was on loan to Racing Santander and consistently getting playing time there before the gold cup. This season, he hasn't played much and look very rusty in his last few Mexican national team games.

But the bottom line is that numerous of our players are starting and playing extremely well in top European leagues nowadays while a lot of their Euro players will be rusty from not getting much playing time.

Since literally nobody saw this match (and I'm assuming >95% of posters commenting here haven't seen this generation of Mexican U17s play one match).............any comparison between the current squads is nothing other than conjecture.

    What do we know?

We know 14 select Mexican u17's (who knows if it was their "first team?" I don't) played 14 select US U17's (to me the majority of whom are of unknown quality)..................and the final scoreline was 1-0.

^This. I don´t know any of the U-17 kids. I´ve never heard of them, I´ve never seen them play. Then again, I didn´t know any of the ones who won the U-17 WC before they won it either. IDK how people can make a judgement on players if they´ve never seen them play.

But sometimes it's ok just to enjoy winning. :)

    1. We know that both the US and Mexico are evaluating players

    2. We know that the Mexican players were all pros

    3. At least 3 of their goal scorers were the best inform strikers for their clubs

ALEJANDRO DÍAZ LICEÁGA Club America Apertura U15 4 goals in 3 games

Marco Antonio Granados Villegas Chivas Guadalajara Apertura U15 3 goals in 3 games

EMMANUEL ALEJANDRO ARTEAGA ROJAS Atlas Apertura U15 3 goals in 3 games

Maybe I should see how good those Brazilian players that we beat are.

Not the place for this but I suggest you double check your "sources."

Only Vela, Chich, and Moreno are getting consistent playing time in the big 4 leagues.

Pablo Barrera, Efrain Juarez, Javier Maza Rodriguez, Giovani dos Santos rarely see the fields nowadays.

This is how we get ourselves in trouble every cycle. We blow wins in relatively meaningless games waaaaaaaaaaay out of proportion, and think our kids are a lot more talented than they really are.

We go into tournaments thinking we're really good...............and then we fail to beat Uzbekistan and New Zealand (like at the last U17WC). Or scrape out wins against Malawi and UAE in 2009. Or lose to Tajikastan and Tunisia as in 2007.

Overanalyze any of these youth results at your own peril.

I wouldn't put Maza in that category. He started and played 90 minutes the game before this last one. He was a solid starter up until the last few games, but he still gets playing time.

I'm not really trying to overhype this team but it looks like we at least have a few decent players.

this u17 group is excellent starting out. the problem is over the course of 24 months the rate of improvement of our competitors far outstrips us bc most of those kids are in pro academy getting real tactical training etc. we in US are not there but I must admit Klinsman philosophy is changing our direction and hopefully there is enuf time for these kids to assimilate the info and use it second nature. I am hoping
