WAVE'S VORBERG PLACED ON INJURED RESERVE AND WAVE SIGN ANTE COP
    03/16/2012 2:25 PM
On the day of the first game in the MISL Championship Series, one of the Wave’s goalkeeper, Nick Vorberg, was placed on injured reserve and the Wave signed Ante Cop.

This signing is a special exemption to the roster freeze which took effect as of February 10th. The MISL rules state, “In the unlikely event that a team is reduced to a single “available and healthy” goalkeeper due to National Team call-up or medically-verifiable injury, the team may petition USL (MISL) in writing to be permitted to add a backup goalkeeper to their Master Roster. This may only be done in the event that at least two (2) eligible and healthy goalkeepers are under contract with the club, participating in regular team activities, not on loan with another team, and listed on the final Master Roster submitted at the time of the Roster Freeze date.”

Vorberg was injured in practice and placed on injured reserve today. Ante Cop most recently played in the MISL with the Chicago Riot. Cop will travel to Milwaukee for Sunday’s game if needed.

Milwaukee and Baltimore will face off in the best-of-three 2012 MISL Championship Series starting this Friday night at 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore (6:35 p.m. CT, MISLLive.com), with the second leg set for 3:10 p.m. CT Sunday at U.S. Cellular Arena in Milwaukee (MISLLive.com). A deciding mini-game will be played immediately following Game 2 if needed.

Tickets for Sunday’s game are available by calling the Wave office at 414.224.9283.

Thats great for Ante that he'll atleast be on the bench for the Championship game. Already part of an AISL Championship and an unfortunate NISL Championship loss, why not win an MISL Championship with ....the wave

He probably won't even be on the bench. I think the just signed him in case Feenstra got hurt in Game 1, Game 2 or somewhere in between. I don't think he even went to Baltimore.

No, did not see Ante on the bench at the Baltimore game. Blast did have their backup (Fitzgerald)dressed on the bench for that game though. Wave probably won't use him today, but they would be taking a chance if Feenstra got injured, not to have him on the bench. That would be something to watch if Feensta got injured and they had to use him.

I hope Feenstra isn't injured, but it would be interesting to see Cop, the Chicago Riot's "Blast killer" from last season, playing against the Blast again. I was at the game where he it the three-point bomb that put the Riot ahead of the Blast and then made a fantastic save against Celenza in the last few seconds to preserve the Riot's win. Cop also had the game winning goal for the Riot against the Blast in Baltimore.

So if he dresses as a field player and/or plays when Feenstra is in goal, would the Wave be disqualified or pentalized?

(not that that would probably happen)

He wasn't dressed for Game 2...teams should be required to dress two keepers every game in my opinion.

That rule makes sense, but so many teams don't bring them because of the traveling cost. Personally I think it's an investment teams ought to make. Not every team has Mike Lookingland.

I was at the game tonight, and we saw Cop working out during warmups. I didn't look to see if he was on the bench during the game, but I assume he was, since he was suited up and practicing beforehand.

I know that Fitzgerald's warmed up with the Blast during some home games and did not go on the bench during the game, not to say that you're wrong, just giving the viewers a frame of reference.

Yes, he was at the end of the bench the whole game. Not the 'active players' bench but the end closest the tunnel where all the injured/inactive players stand. I have many pictures of him with the rest of the injured/inactive players throughout the game including Stewart, Vorberg and a few other guys.

I think that's up to the Wave, they may have negotiated that when they signed him. They could give him one as a thank you for making himself available, but I haven't heard anyone say one thing or another. I do know with last years ring that some of the staff members had to buy theirs so there's obviously no limit on how many can be made.
