I got a question for Chivas fans. How do you feel about a rebrand? Would you prefer the Chivas moniker or are you open to rebrands?

I can't stand when fans of other markets say "name them this or that". Its not your team! If Chivas fans want it, fine, otherwise back off.

Just... no. Chivas needs its own identity. Copying yet another foreign team doesn't seem like much of a solution to the problem.

That actually sounds really appealing to me. However, as I said previously, we have some Guadalajara people in our FO that have no idea about branding as it relates to the team. Sadly, they are very enamored with the name "chivas" and would include it any future rebrand. Facepalm.

They would probably call it, Club Internacional Chivas USA. Chivas has to have the "USA" because it would also probably "disrupt the powers that be in Mexico. Lame, I know. USA and International. Overall, it would be a bad idea. "Los Angeles International" sounds good and its the name of our airport.;)

Kodiac TFC, I would suggest you read the previous pages of this thread because it would answer many of questions including branding. I have also suggested that anyone interested should listen to the "Around the League" podcast from a few weeks back where I detailed my suggestions and potential re-branding names.

Los Angeles City FC or Club Deportivo Los Angeles are my favorites. I agree, the fans should be allowed to decide not some fat cat in Guadalajara.

Thank you all for the responses.

Me too. I think it's a great name and would be absolutely perfect for the situation. In fact, I've suggested it in the past. But, alas ...

The reason I think the "Inter" moniker is so bad isn't because I hate arbitrary "euro" sounding names (I do) but because of the culture there. Inter is the bourgeois team in Milan, if not all of Italy. That's specifically what Chivas is trying to avoid.

Real is the bourgeois club of Spain, but it's not keeping RSL fans away from the stadium. I don't think anyone in KC is motivated by Sporting Lisbon's traditions either.

At the end of the day people will go to games and watch on TV if the product on the field is entertaining and if the game day atmosphere is fun and exciting. The name of the club is almost totally irrelevant in this equation.

Having said that, for the record I do think Inter LA sounds pretty bad. Just doesn't roll off the tongue.

I think that's really a stretch. There's zero reason to think that renaming Chivas "International LA" would mean carrying over Inter Milan's culture. The Inter name would take on its own uniquely LA flavor. Plus, you already have the Galaxy in LA as the bougie Westside team. That won't change.

Which is code for "white people", similar to your owner's original plan of dividing LA soccer fans along ethnic lines, as well as you fans trying impose your vision of our identity as a way of trying to grasp your own. The Lakers also have superstars and trophies yet count LA's proletariat as their most ardent supporters.

Also, branding isn't nearly as much of a problem for CDCUSA as much as just having an FO that sucks ass. SKC turned around when OnGoal took over the team and actually ran things properly. The Wizards would be selling just as many tickets at Livestrong as Sporting. See also "Dallas, FC" for the opposite example.

Agreed. Plus Chivas would be going from copying a Mexican league team (that actually owns the team) to copying an Italian league team. It makes no sense and definitely does not fix the branding gripe that so many people - fans and non-fans alike - have.
I like Inter Milan and all, but please for the love of God no.

So...one Los Angeles team playing in a crappy South Bay suburb, the other one playing next to the Colosseum. This sounds a little bit familiar...

lets not get carried away Bubba man, Weingart stadium in E.LA college (22k) or Citrus college stadium in Glendora (10k) would work. I'm sure added portable stands at both ends of Citrus college track would add another 2k. Well, I havent spent the entire day reading prior pages of this thread, so why wouldnt those two work? Both of those locations could get folks from both valleys (san fernan & san gabriel), and be closer to LA. Why would they want to go to OC or stay in LA's southbay area? They should be closer to LA then Galaxy. I say compromise in terms of name...keep it chivas, but in english...Los LA Rams ("LA Rams" is already copyrighted from yrs ago) or Goats LA, or maybe half goats half man ("LA Pans"...I'm kidding but that would be funny though).

Land is expensive in SoCal, even in the current economic climate.

I have not read the entire thread but it delights me that chivas is winning some games only to show the other teams that there is no mailing in it in this league. Heck Even Toronto can beat out a good team like KC or RSL if the latter do not show up mentally.

So back to the thread I think Chivas has its place in the league. They just need a new , smarter front office. If they really want to stay in the southland, fine. Greater LA/IE could support three teams if spaced properly. I am against the coliseum as a temporary home though. I agree the attendance will improve--more than one would expect. The problem will be optics and atmosphere.

So whoever suggested East LA college as a temp home is on to something. That would be close to sell out every game, though much of it would be walk up. ( I mean literally walk up--like from people's houses from east LA and Monterey Park which pretty much surround the campus.) And the atmosphere would be electric, with far LAG fans there for the Derby, to boot.

I think they should just borrow from every big club, and that could be their identity - Real International Sporting Club Deportivo Chivas LA United Juniors

    or Cholos FC

I think LA Goats is ok. Whats wrong w/teams actually named after something? Except for Oakland Athletics, all other US sports franchises are named for something, there's no "united" or "club" or "inter". Quakes, Fire, Tornados, Aztecs, Marlins, Coyotes, Cowboys, Jazz, Lakers...all good names(as long as they pertained to elements of an actual locale...Minnesota Lakers..New Orleans Jazz). Imagine how boring "Texas Baseball Team" would be? Maybe a nod to soCal hispanic immigrant history in "Braceros of LA" or "LA Pueblo" or "California Missions" (it works for SD Padres). If they're going to eliminate any aspect and just be "FC", then they should eliminate locale/flavor too....."Pacific FC".

The HDC is about 2 miles from the City of Los Angeles and is an easier drive to downtown LA than ELAC. Why do people keep equating an area that borders Compton with the 949?

Moving further east would be more convenient for certain parts of the LA basin, but Carson is not on the outskirts of Los Angeles.

Not to mention that the Galaxy could very easily play games at Farmers Field; who becomes "LA's team" then?

If you want to get truly technical, the HDC is slightly less than 1 mile from the City of Los Angeles thanks to the Harbor Gateway aka the shoestring annexation (nearest point on the road network at Figueroa and Victoria, about 0.9 miles away).

You know alot of folks in the Hispanic Community recognize all the grassroots work Chivas Does around the city and are always mentioning that they went to an AYSO,club soccer, or a community event and seen and spoken to their reps.. Hell I've seen them at ciclovia which impressed me. (The Galaxy have fallen behind in regards). the point is Folks always tell me "you know id actually go watch the team but i just don't like the idea of rooting for Chivas". The name has always been a problem it turns off non Mexicans and Non chivas fans. The team is sitting on a potential gold mine of folks who are not willing to support the galaxy and willing to support a different team. The key here is they are willing to support an MLS team. they passed on the G's but are willing to give the league a second look Its just a shame that your front office doesn't see it. Moving wont do you guys any good if people are still turned off by the brand name.

KC is an excellent example on how to reboot an existing MLS franchise and make it sucessfull.

by the way Has your front office looked at the Chinatown area for a new stadium there's a bunch of room next to the elevated gold line station. You'd have to by up some existing business which look like scrap yards. but it might work if you stick a small 18000 seater.

in my opinion th rebranding can work and will actually provide the true rivalry the teams need. an sucessfull rebraned chivas will only push the galaxy and push both teams to out do each other, Competition is a good thing
